Nothing Stands in Our Way

Lacuna Coil had taken a five-year break from touring the UK, and fans were eager to witness their performance once more. With support from Finnish rockers Blind Channel, the night promised to be one full of energy, excitement, and charisma.

Opening the night was an unexpected choice: Blind Channel. Known for their energetic style and playful lyrics, the Finnish nu-metal crew may not be the kind of support you’d expect for Lacuna Coil’s symphonic melodies. Yet tonight, they took the stage with Lacuna Coil, giving their all in a set filled with covers, like System of a Down’s ‘B.Y.O.B.’ and Backstreet Boys’ ‘Everybody (Backstreet’s Back),’ and an appearance from RØRY. Though high in energy, their performance didn’t fully connect with Lacuna Coil’s fanbase, and as they announced an indefinite hiatus, it’s a shame their London send-off didn’t resonate more.

But the night belonged to Lacuna Coil, who showed why they’ve endured for three decades. Their set blended both new material and fan favorites, including unreleased tracks from the upcoming Sleepless Empire, which felt right at home in the lineup. Their stage production added depth, with screens projecting imagery that enriched the music, but the real heart of the show was the chemistry between vocalists Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro. Together, their voices defined the band’s sound, hitting every note with precision and emotion—a clear reminder of why they are still so respected in gothic metal.

This performance showcased Lacuna Coil’s legacy while hinting at their future. New singles like ‘Hosting the Shadow,’ ‘In the Meantime,’ and ‘Never Dawn’ suggested an exciting direction, while classic anthems like ‘Nothing Stands In Our Way,’ ‘Our Truth,’ ‘Heaven’s A Lie,’ and their Depeche Mode cover ‘Enjoy The Silence’ had the Roundhouse audience singing as one.

Lacuna Coil’s 2024 return to the UK was a memorable moment, celebrating their journey and marking a new chapter. With ‘Sleepless Empire’ on the way, Lacuna Coil’s story is far from over.
