AC/DC have scored the UK’s fastest selling album of the year, with their newly released record “Power UP”. The album is the bands 4th UK number 1 album.
Gaining 62,000 chart sales, the band comfortably over took the UK’s previous fastest selling album of 2020, which was Kylie Minogue’s “Disco” that racked up 55,000 chart sales just a week previously (which has now dropped to No. 5). Out of the 62,000 sales, 52,955 were on physical formats (CD, Vinyl, or Cassettes).
The new album has also made its way to No. 1 in the US’ Billboard 200 chart, shifting 117,000 equivalent album units in its first week of release. 111,000 equates to album sales, with an additional 5,000 being streaming equivalent albums (SEA) units (equalling 7.8 million on-demand streams); and 1,000 were track equivalent albums (TEA) units (10,000 track downloads).
Celebrating the chart topping album, Angus Young said “A very big thank you to everyone who put in their time, effort and creativity to get ‘Power Up’ to No. 1! Also a big shoutout to all our fans, old and new. You are, and always have been, our guiding inspiration.”
‘Power Up’ is the bands fourth UK number one, and the band’s first UK number one album since their soundtrack album ‘Iron Man 2 – OST’ a decade ago. The band have previously also hit the top of the charts with 1980s ‘Back In Black’ and 2008’s ‘Black Ice’.
The album is a tribute to Angus’ brother, former rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young.
