Metallica have raised $1.3 million (~£1 million) from their recent ‘Helping Hands’ charity livestream concert.

On November 14th, the band performed a half-acoustic, half-electric benefit livestream to raise money for their charity All Within My Hands. All Within My Hands is non-profit made by the band in 2017 in order to create “sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger and other critical local services”.

Posting to twitter about the great success from the stream the band said “We’re thrilled to announce that, thanks to all of you & our generous sponsors, #HelpingHands2020 has raised over $1.3 million!” the band tweeted. “Those funds will be used to continue our support of [All Within My Hands] partner organisations & COVID-19 & disaster relief efforts.”

The band recorded the stream from their headquarters in California, where they played an eight-song acoustic set and a six-song electric one. The band also did some covers of Deep Purple, Bob Seger, and ‘The House Of The Rising Sun’, with the acoustic part of the show including acoustic versions of ‘Blackened’ and ‘Now That We’re Dead’.
