Arctic Monkeys’ Manger Has Revealed The Band Are Working On New Material

Arctic Monkeys’ manager has revealed that the band are currently “working on music”, which was planned to be recorded in the studio this summer before Covid restrictions changed plans.

During a new conversation with Music Week, the bands manager Ian McAndrew was asked what the band had been up to (asides from the recent live album).

“They’re working on music.” he answered. “In this rather disjointed time, the guys are beavering away and I hope that next year they’ll start working on some new songs, new ideas, with a view on a future release.”

When asked further about if there are any “fleshed out songs” he said ” that they’ve been working hard and I’m so looking forward to hearing new music from the guys in the new year. There were recording plans in the summertime that got canned as a result of the travel restrictions.”

Ian said that despite the lockdown causing disruption, that is “also presented an opportunity” to progress with writing new material. Saying “If you’re literally locked down, you’re going to knuckle down to some work at home, and that’s what’s been going on.”

When asked if the band had been working over Zoom, Ian laughed and said “In the same way that the Arctic Monkeys don’t interact on social media, they don’t interact via audiovisual communication. I have never had a Zoom with a member of the Arctic Monkeys and I don’t think I ever will! This year has been very much heads down working on song ideas from home.”

The manager went on to add that no “proper work” had begun yet. “We haven’t really started any proper work, any recording with a full band, and that’s because the guys aren’t able to be together. I’m hoping that next year, when the restrictions lift, we’ll be able to get together and get on with it.”

I guess we’ll have to keep listening to the new live album for a little bit longer. Here’s ‘505 Live From The Royal Albert Hall’ to tide you over:
