Foo Fighters have started teasing the third single from their upcoming album ‘Medicine At Midnight’. The new single will follow previously released ‘Shame Shame’ and ‘No Son Of Mine’, and will be called ‘Waiting On A War’ (a short preview can be heard below).
Posting to Twitter today the band shared some wider meaning behind the new track, stating “As a child growing up in the suburbs of Washington DC, I was always afraid of war.”
“I had nightmares of missiles in the sky and soldiers in my backyard, most likely brought upon by the political tension of the early 1980âs and my proximity to the Nationâs Capitol.”

So we can expect the new song tomorrow. Talking to NME previously, Dave Grohl talked more about the meaning of the song saying “I was taking my daughter to school and it was around the time that the US and North Korea were ramping up tensions with each other and she had seen it on the news”
“She just asked me: âDad, are we going to warâ? It reminded me of how I felt when I was her age, and I just thought: âWhat a fucking drag!â”
“How depressing is it that childhood could be robbed of that beauty and innocence by this dark feeling of dread? So thatâs what âWaiting On A Warâ is about.”
The band’s previous single ‘No Son Of Mine’ dropped at New Years, coming alongside a handwritten letter from the frontman that read:
“It was almost exactly a year ago that we finished recording our ânewâ record âMedicine At Midnightâ, with a massive world tour planned that would have taken us around the globe celebrating our 25th anniversary as a band.”
“But, wellâŚ. you knowâŚâŚ so, we waited. And waited. And waited. Until we finally realized that our music is made to be heard, whether itâs in a festival field with 50,000 of our closest friends, or alone in your living room on a Saturday night with a stiff cocktail. So, the wait is over.”
“As we say goodbye (fuck you) to 2020, and flip the calendar page to 2021, letâs ring in the New Year with a new rocker, âNo Son Of Mineâ.”
The letter concludes with “Pour a drink, turn it up, close your eyes and imagine that festival field blowing up to this. Because it fucking will. Happy New Year.”
Greg Kurstin produced the new album, and also worked with the band on their previous release ‘Concrete And Gold’. The new album will be 9 tracks long and will be 37 minutes in total.
