snake eyes have released two songs that didn’t make the cut of their debut EP, ‘skeletons’, which released last year. Check out our review of the bands EP here.
The new B-Side EP includes two previously unreleased songs, ’20 bottles’ and ‘heavy handed’. Both songs continue the bands self-proclaimed “grit pop” style (a fusion of grunge, punk, hardcore, indie rock, and brit pop), safe to say if you enjoyed the bands ‘skeletons’ EP you’ll enjoy these songs as well.
Talking about ’20 bottles’ vocalist Jim Heffy said “’20 bottles’ was written about an old house mate I had who was troubled to say the least. The song kind of speaks for itself but letâs just say I was glad when the lease ended and I could finally move out. It was originally intended for the skeletons ep but we decided itâd be good to start the new year with â a song thatâs full of beans! Excited to get out and play this one live!”
The band recently played at the five4five virtual festival in aide of the Music Venue Trust’s #SaveOurVenues campaign.
snake eyes performance at the festival can be watched on YouTube here.
Talking previously about writing the EP, guitarist and vocalist Jim Heffy said “‘skeletons’ was basically my first proper shot at songwriting. I didnât want to overthink or over-write parts. The objective was to make a record thatâs fun but honest, written with a âshoot from the hipâ attitude. As clichĂ© as it sounds, being our first release I wanted âskeletonsâ to really show the bare bones (no pun intended) of the band.”
Jim went on to talk about the recording process, describing it as “DIY”, saying “We ended up making the record between my bedroom and Thomasâ attic as I wanted the EP to feel as DIY as the songs. It ended up being a pretty fun and personal process. Itâs always great playing music but itâs even better when you get to do it with your best mates.”
