Behemoth’s frontman Adam “Nergal” Darski, has been convicted on blasphemy charges, for posting a picture to Facebook where he was standing on an illustration of the Virgin Mary.

According to AntyRadio (Translated with Google Translate) “The court decided that Nergal was to pay a fine of PLN 15,000 (about £2,900) for insulting religious feelings. In addition, the institution orders the musician to pay court costs in the amount of approximately PLN 3.5 thousand.”

Nergal took to Instagram to sate “Will I let superstition and fundamentalist dogmas capitalize on this and EVERY other case of the same nature? FUCK NO! Nigel has some ases up his sleeve… Just wait and see.”

When the case was originally brought about, the frontman wrote “Another lawsuit in the process. Reason? In every case the same: offense of RELIGIOUS FEELINGS! Can u imagine this nonsense in XXl century? Poland is mentally soooo fuckin’ behind the civilized Europe that we r literally THE last bastion of so called“blasphemy casus”. Even extremely Catholic Ireland removed this paragraph from constitution lately. It WILL happen in Poland at some point …. and yea, I’m willing to be that stepping stone. FUCK religious fundamentalism in every fuckin hole. And frankly, I’m sure I will win this and EVERY other case. Just wait and see.”

The news comes as the band sign a new contract with Nuclear Blast Records. The group originally signed with Nuclear Blast Europe prior to the release of 2009’s Evangelion, but their forthcoming album – which is tentatively set for an autumn 2021 release – will be their first to be released by the label outside of the Old Continent.

Despite numerous attempts to be silenced by Poland’s religious right, BEHEMOTH has steadfastly refused to compromise, and Nergal believes that the best is yet to come. “Nuclear Blast has been a household name in metal for decades, and BEHEMOTH has been part of that long and illustrious history,” he says. “But now is about the future, and we look forward to beginning BEHEMOTH’s next chapter with a refocused and revitalized team at Nuclear Blast!”
