Virginian rockers Enforced are back with the highly anticipated ‘Kill Grid’. The thrash metal up-and-comers have seen unprecedented growth since releasing their first single of the new record which promises to be a good one! I have had the privilege of being sent a copy early to review so without further adieu, here’s what I thought of ‘Kill Grid’.
The album kicks off with ‘The Doctrine’, and let me tell you, this is a song and a half! Enforced have a great sound mixing thrash with elements of hardcore and it works so well for them. The ripping riffs and the intense drumming from Alex Bishop creates a chaotic aura around the song and it’s a great way of showing that the band mean business, and aren’t starting slow with the breakneck speed continuing into ‘UXO’. Knox Colby delivers a ferocious vocal performance for this song which stuck with me for days after hearing it for the first time. Despite only being together since 2016, Enforced sound like they’ve been going for decades! What a way to kick off an album.
Up next is ‘Beneath Me’, A blistering track that will have crowds around the world throwing down in the pit without a doubt. The short yet intense song hits the mark perfectly and despite only being 2:30 long, stands out in a league of its own. An incredible display of what this band has to offer! The bar remains high as the next song is the second single from the album titled ‘Malignance’. The track has been an instant hit with fans garnering over 35 thousand streams since it released in January! It’s clear to see why the song has been such a big hit too. Will Wagstaff and Zach Monahan’s guitar playing absolutely dominates this track. I cannot recommend this song enough!
Following that, we get to the title track of the record ‘Kill Grid’. This song is as close to a masterpiece as you can get. The song demonstrates everything you’d want from a thrash song and some. It’s rare to see a song of this style go on for over 7 minutes, yet Enforced have pulled it off to the highest calibre. This is by far my favourite song off the record and I urge you to give this one a whirl. ‘Curtain Fire’ is the latest single from the record and it slams! The dirty parm muted riffs and the infectious beat compliment Knox’s vocal prowess in an amazing way. This record just seems to go from strength to strength!
The first single released for ‘Kill Grid’ was ‘Hemorrhage’ and this was the start of something beautiful. A pure headbanging monster that had fans hooked from day 1. This song deserves all of the attention it has garnered so far and I’m certain it will continue to dominate the scene for at least a couple of years! It’s clear to see why Enforced wanted this to be the song that kicked off this saga of the band.
Coming to the end of a great album always sucks, however, ‘Blood Ribbon’ kicks of the beginning of the end in an empathic way. An in your face juggernaut of a song that will absolutely crush in a live setting. Every part of this song falls into place beautifully and it keeps you hyped for the final track of the record, and let me tell you, ‘Trespasser’ does not disappoint! A brutally heavy tune sees the album off perfectly. I just can’t get enough of this song and it’s been on repeat since I’ve had access to it. The band started this album off strong and ended ever stronger!
Enforced have released one hell of a record that has completely blown me away. I can’t find a single track off this album that I wouldn’t gladly listen to over and over again. If this is what the future of thrash holds I’m 100% here for it and I hope Enforced are at the forefront of the new ear of thrash metal.
