Gojira have shared a new video for their recent single ‘The Chant’ from their new album ‘Fortitude’. Check it out below.
The single was originally launched last Monday, but now the band have unleased a new Russell Brownley directed video, that was Written/conceived by the bandās own Joe Duplantier. The cinematic video was filmed on location in Indiaās West Bengal region in December of 2019. It examines the plight of refugee children from Tibet who fled their homeland in an attempt to preserve their culture following Chinaās invasion of the country in 1949.
Duplantier commented on the significance of the video stating, “This work is inspired by the reading of Tenzin Tsundueās poetry. A righteous Tibetan activist, that describes the cultural genocide perpetrated on its people. Weāve always been sensitive to the Tibetan struggle. One of the wisest and most compassionate traditions, victim of the worst human rights violations imaginable since its invasion in 1949. Tibetan culture inspired many of our lyrics and had a deep impact on our approach of philosophy and art in general. Our thoughts go out to all Tibetans. Weāre hoping that weāll see their land free from oppression in our lifetime.”

āThe Chantā is a slow-burning track featuring some of Gojiraās most melodic material to date, and is the centrepiece of an album-long call to action. According to the press release āWhere past anthems were driven by nuanced dynamics and technical guitar arrangements, āThe Chantā is a self-described āhealing ritualā emanating primordial warmth, culminating in a harmony-stacked chorus that bridges the gap between ancient hymnals and contemporary rockā.
The new single follows the albums āAnother Worldā, āBorn For One Thingā, āInto The Stormā, and āAmazoniaā the latter of which was launched alongside a fundraising initiative to benefit the indigenous owned NGO The Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) who advocate for environmental and cultural rights of indigenous tribes in the Amazon.
Working with the social good-focused platform Propeller, Gojira are curating a charitable campaign featuring an auction of one-of-a-kind items from the band and their friends.
The band are also running a raffle were fans can donate to be entered for a chance to win a hand customized signature Joe Duplantier guitar and a hand painted drum head by Gojira’s Mario Duplantier.
The band have already helped raise over $250k to date for APIB, and are contiuing to add new auction listings, including a Slash autographed top hat and āAppetiteā signature Les Paul guitar, a signed Fender Precision bass from Gojiraās Jean-Michel Labadie used to record the bandās seminal album From Mars to Sirius, and more.
