Royal Blood have claimed their third Number 1 album with their recently released album, ‘Typhoons’ (which we reviewed here).

The new album managed to get 32,000 chart sales – 24,000 of which were on physical formats – making the Brighton duo outsell the Top 5 combined and helping them claim the biggest opening week for a British act in 2021 so far.

With this album the band now have three chart topping albums under their belts including their 2014 self titled debut, and 2017’s ‘How Did We Get So Dark?’.

Celebrating the new the band said to Official Charts “This is getting ridiculous now. I don’t think we thought we’d make more than one album, so to get to here and be on our third and it be Number 1 is a joke, to be honest with you.”

“We’d just like to say thank you to everyone that went out and bought it. Thank you very much, it means a lot to us. Having a Number 1 record in 2021 is like… having a Number 1 record in 2021! A great feeling. Thank you so much, we’ll see you on tour.”

This weeks charts had no shortage of new albums, with Royal Blood being followed in the charts by the new release from the Corals ‘Coral Island’ debuting at Number 2, while Mick Fleetwood & Friends’ live album ‘Celebrating The Music of Peter Green’ takes this week’s Number 3. Indie rocker, Birdy’s new album ‘Young Hearts’ followed closely behind coming in at Number 4.

Elsewhere in the top 10 French heavy metal outfit Gojira scoop their first Top 10 album with ‘Fortitude’ coming in at Number 6, Check out our review of ‘Fortitude’ here. Pink Floyd’s ‘Live At Knebworth 1990’ came in at Number 8. Check out the full album charts here.
