Album Review: Our Hollow, Our Home – Burn in the Flood

Our Hollow, Our Home has been ripping up the metalcore scene since 2013 and ‘Burn in the Flood’ has garnered a lot of attention. Fans have been patiently waiting for the next studio album from the band ever since ‘In Moment / / In Memory’ dropped back in 2018 so the question is, was it worth the wait? Here’s what I thought of Our Hollow, Our Home’s ‘Burn in the Flood’.

It’s made clear that the band are staying true to what they know right from the get-go as ‘Burn in the Flood’ features the bands signature style and allows fans to feel a sense of nostalgia even though it’s a new track. The album has a lot going for it and a personal highlight from the album for me is the track ‘Blood’. This song features an acoustic style mixed with melodic phrases and passionate vocals. It’s a shining example of the band’s diversity and ability to switch things up and still succeed.

Continuing with the album’s strengths, most of the songs are jam-packed with heavy riffs and neck-snapping drumming. In particular, I think the songs ‘Monarch’ and ‘Children of Manus’ shine in their own heavy light. If you’re looking for tracks that will have pits around the world set to explode, these are the tracks for you to check out on the new album.

I would love to say I loved each track on the album however, I found myself quite disinterested in ‘Better Daze’. I felt like the song was a little too much on the pop-punk side and it didn’t really lend itself to the band’s style. A minor blip in an otherwise extremely strong record.

It’s great to hear the bands sound evolving and the album gives a continuous feeling of growth and charisma from the Southampton based metalheads. They have a really unique blend of rap and gutturals that work wonders for them and this blend is heard best in the final track of the album ‘Seven Years (Shine a Light on Me). It’s an emotional track that is full of passion which will have fans relating to its heavy lyrics. It’s an extremely wholesome way of finishing the record and I think fans will become attached to this track quickly.

Ultimately, Our Hollow, Our Home may have just dropped their best album to date. The tracklist is full of potential and I can easily see most of these songs dominating the bands set’s for years to come. I think it’s safe to say that fans can be relieved knowing it was worth the wait.
