Political rockers Rise Against are back with their highly anticipated album ‘Nowhere Generation’. The outspoken outfit has made quite the name for themselves which has led to this upcoming album being one of their biggest releases to date. I cannot think of a better time for a political album to drop considering everything that’s been going on over the past few years so without further delay, here is my review of Rise Against’s ‘Nowhere Generation’.
The album kicks off with the fast-paced track titled ‘The Numbers’. Right of the bat, you are met with a song full of passion and charisma. Boasting an inspiring chorus and a plethora of memorable lyrics, the album kicks of in a very strong way. ‘Sudden Urge’ builds on the energy created from the last track in its own heavy way. A consistent yet dominant beat bully’s the track into form and a collection of perky riffs make give the song a surprising amount of danceability.
Title Track ‘Nowhere Generation’ is one of those tracks I think a lot of outcasted teens will make their anthem throughout high school. An impassioned track about being the ones ‘no one wants’ and having nowhere to go always makes for a hit with the angsty youth but in turn, the song is actually pretty good. I highly recommend checking this one out for yourselves. Following that is ‘Talking To Ourselves’ and, wow, am I addicted to the opening! Other than that, the song is full of pep and character. Four tracks in and not a disappointment insight. Great start from Rise Against!
If you’re a fan of the band and you haven’t heard the first single from this album then you must have been living under a rock. ‘Broken Dreams, Inc’ kickstarted the hype train around this entire album and for good reason. Classic punk drumming accompanied by an inspiring lyric sheet was always going to make shockwaves in the scene and the single has already amassed over six-million streams on Spotify alone! If you haven’t heard this mammoth of a track yet, get it on as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, ‘Forfeit’ didn’t land for me. The song isn’t bad however, the acoustic style doesn’t hit the same way for me. I found myself growing bored of the track fairly quickly and just couldn’t bring myself to want to hear it more. Thankfully, it is followed by my favourite track on the entire album. ‘Monarch’ is an explosion of passion and speed which just works so well.
‘Sounds like’ is a decent track that flows well and keeps the momentum of the album riding along. A very groovy track with an impactful chorus makes for a good time. Not to mention it has a pretty cool breakdown esc sequence in the dying stages of the track. This is followed by the melodic styles of ‘Sooner Or Later’. This track just screams fan participation and with gigs hopefully returning in the near future, I cannot wait to see this one performed live. That will be one for the ages.
Approaching the end of the album and we have ‘Middle Of A Dream’. They always say save the best for last and this track is certainly one of the best on the record. A pure rock anthem that is full of enjoyable riffs and meaningful lyrics which builds up anticipation for the final track of the album titled ‘Rules Of Play’. Talk about going out with a bang! Utilising the band’s ability to switch from softer styles to a more aggressive bombardment of noise in a heartbeat, the song is everything you’d expect from Rise Against so it’s the perfect choice to finish the album up.
What can I say except well-done Rise Against. Once again the rockers have delivered and managed to live up to the astounding amount of hype surrounding this release. It’s hard to strike gold as many times as Rise Against have yet they somehow continue to do it time and time again. I highly recommend you checking out this release.
