Album Review: Hacktivist – Hyperdialect

June 17, 2021 | Reviewed By

Hacktivist is a name that has become synonymous with their non-stop touring cycles and the band have finally released their second full-length album titled ‘Hyperdialect’. The Milton Keynes based rap-metal group have done a great job with getting fans excited for the new release with every single that has come out doing extremely well over all platforms. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this record and it’s my pleasure to share with you my review of Hacktivist’s ‘Hyperdialect’.

The album starts off strong with the imposing and empowering ‘Anti-Emcees’. Heaviness and melody make up a huge part of the Hacktivist sound and the more modern rap over an interesting instrumental makes for an enjoyable listening experience. As flows go, ‘Luminosity’ has a striking one. Smooth transitions and emphasis make this a memorable track on the record. Not to mention how well the heavily distorted riffs compliment the UK Rap lyricism.

‘Lifeform’ Ups the heaviness and I think this is when Hacktivist is at their best. The way the track is mixed and mastered is astounding and the contrast between parts keeps you glued to what’s coming round the corner. Lyrically, the song is quite eye-opening as the band explore their unique blend of UK rap and heavy metal. Successful is an understatement for the track ‘Armoured Core’. Dropping as a single back in the later stages of 2020, the song has quickly become one of the bands biggest tracks to date. The inclusion of Kid Bookie adds some more character to the already jam-packed track.

Following that is the slightly underwhelming ‘Turning Tables’. The track is ok and has moments of greatness however, in relation to the rest of the album, I can’t help but feel that this track is levels below where it should be. A rather uninspiring instrumental accompanied by some quite impressive rap just doesn’t do it for me. On the other hand, ‘Currency’ takes the tried and true Hacktivist formula and runs with it. I am absolutely addicted to this track and I can say this is my favourite track on the entire album.

Continuing the momentum created before, ‘Hyperdialect’ keeps the party going with vocal effects and impactful delivery. Once again, the feature of Aaron Matts gives the song that edge that allows it to go from a decent track to a great one. I highly recommend you check this one out. Taking a slight step backwards is the track ‘Dogs of War’. This more old school sounding track works well at changing up the pace of the record as we enter the latter stages of it. The song does its job well and leaves a lasting impression on you.

‘Ultima Dies’ follows and the intro is quite something. Calming charms disrupted by an overwhelming feeling of dread sets the tone nicely for the climax of the record. ‘Planet Zero’ kicks off the carnage with a rapid flow accompanied by bullet-like drumming and chugging guitars. If you’re a fan of a more heavy experience, this is the track for you.

Up next is the penultimate track ‘How Dare You Exist’. Starting very atmospheric to captivate the listener’s mind, The track goes through swings of heaviness and more rap orientated listening. For fans of the band, this is the best of both worlds when it comes to what you expect from Hacktivist. Very politically driven and extremely impactful. Finishing the album is the emphatic ‘Reprogram’. The song is a culmination of the styles the band have displayed throughout the album and I think it does a great job closing out the record.

Hacktivist has managed to release yet another strong album which should, without a doubt, elevate the band to that next level they have been fingertips away from for what feels like a lifetime. I highly recommend checking this album out if your a fan of more rap orientated metal music.
