The UK hardcore scene has seen a resurgence of late with bands like Borstal storming into relevance with heavy riffs and no-nonsense songs and Up and Coming rockers ‘Clobber’ will be hoping for a piece of the pie with their new release ‘Tribal Rites Of The New Friday Night’. The EP promises to be full of aggression and grit so without further adieu, here is my review of their new release.
Kicking the EP off is the title track ‘Tribal Rites Of The New Friday Night’. A beefy track that brings the aggression with straight to the point lyrics and heavy chugging riffs. The short track gets its point across quickly and in a way that will have you headbanging to its infectious beat. Following that is the track ‘Karens, Gammons, Hippies and Conspiracies’, a fast-paced number that has a really dominant drumming track. The repetitive nature of the track allows the song to embed itself in your head and I can guarantee you’ll be singing this one for at least a few days after hearing it.
‘The World’s Gone Mental’ is up next and this gives off a real anthem-like feel. Politically driven lyrics that lead into a chant-like chorus capture the band’s style perfectly. Match that with the short but sweet guitar solo and you have the recipe for a great punk rock track. Closing the EP is the song ‘Tottenham Court Road’, Arguably the strongest song on the EP. Giving off a real hardcore style vibe, the song’s use of syncopation is great and the last minute of the track really brings the heaviness out. I highly recommend giving this track a try.
Clobber have released a really strong EP that shows just how much potential they have. If you’re a fan of punk rock or UK hardcore then I think these guys will be perfect for you. The raw intensity the band gives off is hard to come by nowadays and it’s a nice breath of fresh air onto the scene.
