Taylor Hawkins joined the band shortly after they had finished making their 1997 album ‘The Colour and the Shape’. Since joining, Hawkins has played on eight studio albums with the band.

The drummer was often known to swap roles with frontman Dave Grohl during their live sets. During their last performance in Mexico City, Taylor took to vocals to sing a cover of Queen’s ‘Somebody To Love’.

Back in August 2001, Hawkins had survived a heroin overdose that left him in a coma for two weeks. “I just got out of control for a while,” he later said. “I took it too far. I’m glad it got knocked on the head at that point.”

Hawkins is survived by his wife, Alison, and their three children.
