Dear Seattle have returned with their second full-length album titled ‘Someday’. The Australian Indie Rockers will be hoping to continue their momentum generated from their 2019 album release titled ‘Don’t Let Go’, and judging by the reception fans have given to the singles released so far, they may be onto a winning formula. Here’s what I thought of ‘Someday’.
The album is full of emotionally filled tracks whether it’s about losing someone, doubting yourself, or trying to grow from a bad situation. The opening track ‘Home’ really set the scene for what is about to unfold. An indie album by sound but a meaningful and impactful one by the contents of the lyrics littered throughout. ‘In My Head’ explores a more angry side of a relationship breaking down. Feeling a bit lost and as if everything is one-sided. Realizing that what was once there is gone is a key theme on this track and it allows the song to blossom.
As the album continues, you get more of an understanding of the message behind Dear Seattle’s latest work. Whether it’s trying to improve and realizing your mistakes from the past in tracks such as ‘Here To Stay’ or its the feeling of being invisible and not being able to be helped as explored in ‘Irretrievable’, the album channels these deep messages in a somewhat joyous tone with calming melodies and memorable choruses.
Despite the somewhat gloomy theme’s surrounding the album, tracks such as ‘Feel The Weight’ and ‘Split’ offer high amounts of energy and make you want to dance away all your doubts and worries. The band are well aware of how music can completely change the mood of a person and has done a great job of blending difficult situations with more uplifting chord progressions and melodies to serve as a helping hand to anyone who needs it.
The final two tracks of the album really stood out to me. ‘A Perfect House’ has a tonne of character within the words being sung and the more positive vibe resonates well with the listener and generates a real sense of hope. As for ‘Someday’, the acoustic flair is pleasant to listen to while the lyrical content takes you away on a journey of compassion and determination. Looking at others and knowing that it will eventually be your turn to have what they have can be something that many struggle with and this song try to add some optimism to such a situation.
Unsurprisingly, this album is not full of themes of overwhelming happiness however, it’s an important album for the band. A Lot of the lyrical themes are there to not only help the band deal with the struggles they face but to serve as a light in the dark for listeners who may be going through similar situations. Sometimes you can’t physically reach out to someone so it’s vital that music like this exists as it allows people to realize they aren’t the only ones out there with these problems, and that it does get better in the end. It’s a solid album from the Dear Seattle that should go down well with both existing and new fans alike.
