As the cold started to fill the London air once again, Cassyette had one final stop on her Sad Girl Summer tour which would take place at none other than Islington Academy. Capping off her largest UK headline run to date, this night promised to be one neither the band nor the fans should forget. Here’s what went down!
Opening up proceedings was CRASHFACE, and despite being on shortly after the doors opened, they amassed quite the crowd and delivered a set worthy of their time. High-energy tracks mixed with charisma and passion allowed the band to quickly win over the room and it wasn’t long till the first out of the night was in full swing. CRASHFACE’s style worked tremendously in warming up the fans and as their set ended you could tell a lot of people were eager to hear more in the future.
Up next was Kid Bokkie who brought his blend of rap and punk to the London crowd. Sporadic, chaotic and eccentric is how I would describe this set. Whether they were laying it down on the stage, on the barrier or even dropping verses in the Mosh Pit, Kid Bookie made the venue his own and he seemed as if he belonged on a stage that size! A highlight of the set had to be ‘Game’, the crowd’s energy levels seemed to multiply once this track kicked in which made the rest of the night that much sweeter!
A sold-out Islington Academy erupted as Cassyette took to the stage. Opening with ‘Picture Perfect’ before sending the entire room into a frenzy by dropping ‘Dear Goth’. Fan interaction was a key element of the show as Cassyette would often encourage singing, moshing and dancing throughout her performance. Making a point of acknowledging that it’s okay to be different and to be yourself, both the fans and the band seemed to be on the same wavelength which made for one hell of a show.
Unleashing a jam-packed set with the likes of ‘September Rain’, ‘Mayhem’ and ‘Sad Girl Sumer’ allowed fans to fill Islington’s night with love, compassion and optimism. Ending the set with ‘Dear Goth’ getting a second outing and leaving nothing but a broken guitar on the stage allowed the London crowd to go home with memories that’ll last a lifetime.
Cassyette is one of the UK’s fastest-growing talents in the alternative scene and live shows like this are a huge reason for that success. She has improved so much since her last outing in London and has really come into her own.
