Camden Town is a home away from home for people who don’t quite seem to fit anywhere else so it comes as no surprise that it hosts many different and progressive artists within the cities borders. Artio took over The Black Heart accompanied by No You and Hot Wax for a night jam-packed with energy and excitement. Here’s what went down!
Hot Wax was the first to take to the stage and they brought quite the crowd with them. As they unleashed their explosive Punk blend of music, more and more people from the bar downstairs came up to the venue to see what was going on. High-octane tracks accompanied by powerful vocals got those in attendance moving from the off. The band quickly grew comfortable with their surroundings and within no time, they were feeding the crowd more and more energy. That’s one way to make sure you leave your mark!
Following them was No You who might not have been as feisty but what they lacked in explosive passion, they more than made up for with their refined sound. Each member seemed to be full of charisma which in turn encouraged the crowd to get behind what they were laying out. Groovy riffs echoed around The Black Heart as No You drove full speed ahead to deliver a set that left little to be desired!
As Artio took to the stage, you got a real feeling of excitement from the fans in attendance. The band’s neon pink sign illuminated the stage and without any hesitation, the band unleashed ‘Pyro Kid’ before storming straight into ‘I Can’t Sleep’. High energy and crowd encouragement was what really brought this set to life. Each song flowed perfectly into the next and the whole flow of the show seemed expertly paced.
‘Hell’s Door’ was an early fan favourite that saw the crowd start to liven up a bit more and this was the real turning point of the set for me. Everyone in the room felt comfortable and was happy to express themselves in any way they wanted. Artio made a point to declare the show as a safe space for anyone no matter their Gender, Race, or Sexuality and this went down exceptionally well with the diverse crowd. The saying save the best till last couldn’t be more fitting for this show as closing the set was ‘Hush Money’ followed by ‘Billionaire Nightmare’ which had the majority of the room singing at the top of their lungs!
As a whole, this night showcased that the future of the UK alternative music scene is in very capable hands. All three bands managed to impress those in attendance in one way or another other and they all show an amazing amount of potential that will only grow the more they get to play. Support your local music venues and bands. You never know who will be the next big thing!
