Rock and Punk music is deeply rooted in clubs and pubs around the world so when it comes to seeing shows in that space, that is the ultimate way to experience them. Fall Out Boy, who usually play arenas around the world, decided that for the launch of their new album, they would play two shows in the UK in clubs to capture the aesthetic of their earlier days! Here’s what went down when Fall Out Boy took over Heaven!

From the early hours of the morning, fans had art up camp to queue for the highly anticipated show and by the time doors rolled around, the queue spanned the entire street and then some!  As fans flooded into the LGBTQ club you could feel the excitement and anticipation reaching a boiling point. Despite a 2 hour wait from doors to showtime, fans eagerly sang along to what the DJ was laying down in an almost choir-like manner. When the lights dropped and the screens came on, the room erupted! Opening their set with their new single ‘Love From The Other Side’, Fall Out Boy made it clear that they were there to give their all and nothing less!

Kicking things off in a big way, ‘Phoneix’ was up next followed by one of their many hits ‘Sugar, We’re Going Down Swinging’ and as you would expect, the vibes only turned sweeter!  Whether you were singing, dancing or just taking it all in, the entire venue was captivated! ‘Uma Thurman’ brought out the first Clap-A-Long passage of the evening while ‘Disloyal Order Of Water Buffaloes’ and ‘Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy’ encourage rambunctious behaviour from the FoB faithful!

Not wanting to stay in one lane for long, the band burst into ‘Chicago Is So Two Years Ago’ to a roar of approval! Unsurprisingly, ‘Dance, Dance’ would also receive a massive reaction and saw the first proper mosh pit open of the night! People were not passing up on this opportunity to throw down like it was the early 2000s again and it showed!

I call the next section of the set the “sing-y songs” section as honestly, the fans could be heard over the band during the next 3 tracks in an amazing way! ‘Hum Hallelujah’ opened this moment of amazingness while ‘A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More “Touch Me”’ and ‘This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race’ perfected it! Tears were flowing and smiles were gleaming and the family named ‘Calm Before The Storm’ built into an explosive performance of ‘My Song’s Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)’!

The energy in the room had only seemed to grow throughout the set and fans didn’t seem to want to let up one bit as ‘Heartbreak Feels So Good’ saw its first outing in London. From a new single to a song that fans have been begging to hear again for years, ‘Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On A Bad Bet’ “Melted faces” as Bassist Pete Wentz described it. The ‘Thriller’ marked the beginning of the end for the show as it illuminated the club before dropping ‘Thnks Fr Th Mmrs’ to what I can only describe as an earth-shattering reaction! By far the loudest song of the night in terms of fan participation!

Pete would joke about it being part of the show where they would walk off to do an encore however they just wanted to play to which Singer Patrick Stump would joke that he “Won’t play without my cheers” to which the venue proceeds to erupt! “Careful What You Wish For” exclaimed Pete before the band launched into a heavy rendition of ‘Centuries’ before closing out the set with the ever-exciting ‘Saturday’.

If you were lucky enough to be in the room on the night then I’m sure you’d agree that this FoB show was something truly special. The intimacy and energy around the entire event were unlike anything I’ve experienced during my time going to live shows and both the band and fans seemed visibly overjoyed come to the end of the night. Emotions ran high throughout the set with many fans forgetting all their worries for a few hours. Until we meet again Fall Out Boy!
