Album Review: Saint Agnes – Bloodsuckers

Saint Agnes is a band that is constantly grabbing people’s attention for its more unorthodox sound and approach to music. They have burned every rule book they have ever come across and made sure to do things the way they want to and it’s worked wonders for them so far. With their new album ‘Bloodsuckers’ being right around the corner, fans and critics alike are getting ready to embrace the chaos once more. Here are my thought’s on the new album!

Opening with an anger-filled anthem, ‘Bloodsuckers’ brings the noise and will fuel you with another adrenaline to mosh the night away! Unfiltered and full of aggression is the tone Saint Agnes wants to portray, and this track does a splendid job of that. Becoming even more unhinged is the electronic heavy track ‘Animal’. The distorted synth creates an eerie atmosphere before the band unleashes a barrage of attitudes upon the listener in a chaotic way. If you’re looking for a track to bang your head to then ‘I Mean Nothing To You’ has you covered. Straight to the point and in your face is this track’s mantra and it isn’t taking any prisoners.

Sung loud and proud, ‘Outsider’ embarrassed the more obscene and irregular people out there and gave them an anthem to unite under. With the band often addressing the fact their sound doesn’t quite fit in any one genre, this track proves they don’t need to fit their mould to absolutely dominate the alternative music scene. Slowing the pace and changing the mood is the more delicate sound of ‘This Is Not The End’. A key heavy track that focuses more on Kitty’s Softer vocals to draw an emotional reaction from the listener. Despite not being the usual sound fans would expect, this track shines brightly amongst the crowd and offers a new look at Saint Agnes.

Chaos does quickly resume, however, as ‘Follow You’ brings out a disgustingly distorted guitar that dominates the entire track. Giving off Mick Gordon Doom vibes, this song kicks you in the teeth and makes you apologize for it! This more ruthless edge continues into ‘I Am’ and continues to blur the lines of normality. Beefy drumming matched with simple yet dominant riffs compliments Kitty’s eccentric vocal delivery throughout the song. It’s clear the band aren’t afraid of mixing it up and this more retro-feeling track is a shining example of that.

‘At War With Myself’ is a track many will be able to relate to and the way the song progressive with the narrative being sung makes for one hell of a listening experience. Starting subtle and ending in all-out chaos mirrors just how sudden mental health can explode into all-out mayhem. Leaving subtleness behind is the track ‘Middle Finger’. Uniting people under the banner of not giving a f**k about what people think about you is exactly what you’d expect from Saint Agnes and it’s no surprise this is one of the strongest songs on the entire album.

Upping the chaos is ‘Body Bag’ which blends the already chaotic style of Saint Agnes and adds the eccentric style of Mimi Barks to add that little bit more of a punch. The song may be short but it may pack the biggest punch on the entire album! Closing out the record is ‘Forever and Ever’, a near 6-and-a-half-minute track that takes the listener on one hell of a journey. Despite its length, it manages to keep the Saint Agnes charm throughout without feeling bloated. Its constant changes of style keep you enticed and questioning what’s around the corner.

Unsurprisingly, this album is full of surprises and completely rips up the playbook. Saint Agnes doesn’t fit the mould and they don’t want to! Their unique take on alternative music breathes a breath of fresh air onto a scene that desperately needs it. They don’t care about the norm and that’s what allows them to shine brighter than most bands trying to break through right now.
