Album Review: The OBGMs – The Ends

The OBGMs, Or The Oooh Baby Gimme Mores, start their second album off with ‘Outsah’, leading us in with a mix of percussion clamouring together, before taking us into a strong punky rock drum and bass infusion. The song gives us our first listen to the OBGMs unique stylings with screamy, disguised vocals. ‘Outsah’ is very comparable to later in album ‘Fight Song’, both songs have an angry hitting out at the world attitude, with instruments bawling it out to reach your ears.

‘All my friends’ gives us an our first hit of a different side of the OBGMs that we only hear towards the end of the album. It takes its time and is memorable. Talking about “My friends and lovers want to follow me, Don’t think that I would”.

‘Not Again’ is a break up song, with lyrics like “Yeah, I’ll never fall, never fall in love again” and “I’ll never curse another with the burden of this hell”, this song brings the angry energy from ‘Outsah’ and ‘Fight Song’ but gives it a sadness at the same time.

‘WTFRU’ has a hypnotic sound to the instruments. ‘Karen O’s’ gives us great buzzing guitars, and an energetic drum beat. A song I’d love to mosh to. Ending with a long screech from Densil McFarlane.

Slowing things down towards the end of the album, ‘To Death’ is one of my favourite song on the album. The song takes its time, having a memorable riff, and sing along vocals. A strong rock song. ‘Move On’ closes the album, bringing us back to the noise punk of the rest of the album, it has a nice flow to it and gives a good end to the album.

An interesting second record from The OBGMs, giving us a solid noise punk album with some great moments. Worth checking out.
