It is that time of year once again when the beautiful Somerset countryside will be echoing with the sweet sounds of the world’s best post-rock, math-core, noise rock, ambient, progressive metal, and a myriad of all the other ear-pleasing alternative genres. Yes!! It is time for ArcTanGent festival and what a line-up they have in store for its 10 year anniversary. Here are a few must-see bands that the lovely people at ATG have been kind enough to sprinkle over the 5 stages.
Earthtone9 – Saturday, 18:35-19:25 – Bixler stage
It is only right to pay homage to the band that gave us critically acclaimed albums such as ‘Lo-Def(inition) Discord’, and of course ‘Arc Tan Gent’. The 5-piece, who have amassed a large cult following since their formation in the late 90’s, will be taking the stage with their mix of progressive/alternative metal in the early evening on Saturday the 17th.
Caspian – Saturday, 20:35-21:25 – Yohkai stage
Hailing all the way from Beverly, Massachusetts, we have instrumental, post-rock giants Caspian. With 5 studio albums and countless other releases under their belt since forming in 2003 they are not short of material. They have graced the grounds of Fernhill Farm before and have been asked back for a very good reason. Be sure to catch them doing what they do best.
HAAL – Friday, 11:00-11:30 – PX3 stage
Opening up the PX3 stage on Friday the 16th are Bristol’s own HAAL. After the members of the Bristol 4-piece played with various other acts around the Bristol scene, they finally released their first single together as HAAL called ‘Memorial’ in 2021, which then led to the release of the atmospheric and raw ‘Back to Shilmarine’ EP in 2024.
LLNN – Wednesday, 19:15-20:00 – Yohkai stage
Next up, we have the mighty LLNN. The Danish band known for their incredible use of large walls of post-metal, apocalyptic sound. They are sure to blow minds for the early midweek festival goers. This band really are an unstoppable force. Get ready for a hell of a show.
Explosions In The Sky – Thursday, 21:40-23:00 – Arc stage
It is hard to do this list and not mention the Thursday headliner. There is a lot to be said about Explosions In The Sky, but they really are a band that you must watch live. Formed in Texas around the late 90’s, this band have been on a constant climb since then. From their music being featured in numerous TV shows to writing scores for Hollywood movies, they truly can bring a tear to anyone’s eye with their beautiful mix of post-rock soundscapes. Even the silence before the huge crescendos are something to experience.
Night Verses – Friday, 17:05-17:45 – Yohkai stage
Fresh off a world arena tour supporting Tool, the 3-piece from sunny LA are bringing their incredibly technical, dynamic prog metal to ATG. This band truly belongs at this festival. Watching this band perform really is a sight to behold. From complex drum patterns to odd timed impressively textured guitar and bass work. Not to be missed.
