2023 has been an absolutely stacked year for the alternative music scene so it was extremely difficult to narrow down all the incredible albums which released this year to just 10! From rock to the heaviest of metal, each genre has had an incredible year of releases so without further adieu, there are our albums of the year.

10. Enter Shikari – A Kiss For The Whole World
Released: 21st April 2023

It should come as a surprise to none that Enter Shikari are capable of some of the most danceable alt tracks known to man. A Kiss For The Whole World dives deeper into their arsenal and instead of reinventing the wheel, the band take what they know they do well at and amplify it tenfold! A wide variety of styles and sounds can be found within this release and the album is a joy to listen to from start to finish.

9. Saint Agnes – BLOODSUCKERS
Released: 21st July 2023

Saint Agnes is a band that has made quite a name for themselves as of late and their new album matches their rise! BLOODSUCKERS is a genre-bending album, taking elements from Nu-Metal, Punk and Industrial styles and combining them into their own kick-ass sound. The band has always been happy to play what they want and they don’t care who they upset along the way. This results in one of the band’s most unfiltered and aggressive albums to date and it’s well worth a listen!

8. Svalbard – The Weight Of The Mask
Released: 6th October 2023

One of the more unique releases of the year, Svalbard has delivered arguably their best work to date with The Weight Of The Mask. The album boasts incredible riffs and screams that stick with you for weeks on end. It’s one of those albums that you’ll have on repeat for days at a time and it could easily become your soundtrack to 2024!

7. Pupil Slicer – Blossom
Released: 2nd June 2023

Pupil Slicerā€™s Blossom offers an incredibly heavy and intense experience for its listeners. The raw aggression on this record makes it stand out from the pack with each song feeling like it had been hand-crafted to tickle the right parts of your brain. A total rollercoaster from front to back that will leave you wanting more!

6. Graphic Nature – A Mind Waiting To Die
Released: 17th February 2023

Maybe one of 2023ā€™s most aggressive releases, A Mind Waiting To Die perfectly captures the sound and feel Graphic Nature wanted to give off. Disgustingly heavy at times with an unrelenting assault of growls and riffs will leave you wondering what just happened. Graphic Nature is a band on the rise and this album further solidifies this!

5. Samurai Pizza Cats – You’re Hellcome
Released: 22nd September 2023

Metal songs can be whimsical too! Samurai Pizza Cats have somehow managed to fuse brutally heavy breakdowns with light-hearted humour all while wearing snazzy Hawaiian shirts! Having an incredible roster of featured artists, this record is one for the days you just want to have a heavy boogy!

4. As Everything Unfolds – Ultraviolet
Released: 21st April 2023

As Everything Unfolds claimed the top spot of our ā€œBest Albumsā€ back in 2021 their softmore album Ultraviolet had a lot to follow! The album is an incredible release that offers a new and exciting look at one of the UKā€™s rising stars. Not sticking to the tried and tested style of their first album, Ultraviolet adapts and concerns in an entirely new and thrilling way!

3. Fall Out Boy – So Much (For) Stardust
Released: 24th March 2023

A return to a more rock-focused style from Fall Out Boy is exactly what the doctor ordered for 2023! A band that isn’t afraid to change things up seemed to find a tonne of success at going back to their roots and reintroducing elements from their travels to release a broad yet welcoming album for all their fans to enjoy. It could be argued that this is some of the band’s best work in recent history!

2. Avatar – Dance Devil Dance
Released: 17th February 2023

The metal circus never disappoints and Avatar conjured up an album for the ages with Dance Devil Dance. Sinister and brutal in nature, the record goes from strength to strength while unleashing some of the band’s most experimental work to date. No strangers to switching things up, Avatar opted for a mix of fresh new ideas and some tried and tested bangers for this album and it worked a treat!

1. Creeper – Sanguivore
Released: 13th October 2023

If you told me that my top album of the year would be a Rock Opera Esc release from Creeper then I’d have called you a liar but alas, here we are! Sanguivore is an incredible release that offers so much to its listeners. The new sound suits the band well and the album as a whole gives of the same sort of emotions and feelings as Meat Loaf’s Bat Out Of Hell! Ever since this record dropped I’ve found myself constantly returning to it for more. If you haven’t given it a try yet I highly encourage you to!
