Evile took over the Boston Music Room in support of their latest album ‘Hell Unleashed’ and I was lucky enough to sit down with both Ben Carter and Adam Smith to discuss the album, the pandemic and the band’s plans for the future. Here’s what went down!
How are you doing guys?
Ben: Good thanks!
Adam: Great to be here.
So you finally dropped your new album ‘Hell Unleashed’ after quite a lengthy wait, how did the fans take to it?
Ben: It’s been amazing. Absolutely amazing. We were just glad to be releasing new music and you could hear the frustration of the past few years within the songs and stuff and it did alright. It was good. It was very aggressive and it needed to make an impact watch, I think it did.
I think it definitely did make an impact. To see it go as high as number 5 in the UK rock charts was great and I believe that will give way to more of the up and coming thrash bands in the scene today. What are your thoughts on the new wave of bands coming out of the scene?
Ben: Well, this is where Adam’s come from, His other band Riptide are one of the frontrunners of the new wave of thrash as we were back in 2006, 2007. It’s really great to see. The talent is there and with guys like Tortured Demon – who are opening for us tonight – allows the cycle to continue, to go round.
How was it for you guys during the recent pandemic?
Ben: So, we had to write the album and get that recorded. We had an objective which really helped us through. If we didn’t have that end goal I don’t know what we would be doing now. Having that set objective really did make things easier. Like looking back at the years gone, we were really non-visible and it was almost like a self-imposed hiatus for one reason or another.
So this is your first tour back for a while. How has the tour been for you?
Ben: Very, very good.
Adam: Incredible! Very Positive.
Have there been Any standout moments on the tour that you can think of?
Ben: We’ve actually been quite sensible on this run. We’ve been travelling quite a lot, and like just doing the gigs, getting all the gear away in the van and then driving to the next place. We don’t have time to kind of get down anywhere and go off the rails so to speak. It’s just like getting the job done. You get to the next town and get on with it. It flowed and the turnout was fantastic.
Adam: Every show has been good, like really good and that’s what I enjoy the most.
So, it’s already been announced that you’ve started work on the next album. Can you share any information on how that’s going?
Ben: Well we can’t really say much at the minute but this time we didn’t want fans waiting for another 5 or so years before the next album dropped. It wouldn’t be fair on the fans or the people who stood by us so we’re hoping for a quick turnaround and then focusing on potentially touring it in 2023.
You guys got the chance to play Bloodstock last summer. How was it playing a festival after the lockdown?
Ben: That was the first proper gig back for us.
Adam: It was my first ever gig for the band. It was a big stage with a lot of people, probably the most people I’ve ever played with for my first gig but luckily it went well.
That’s all I have for you guys today. Thank you so much for your time guys.
Ben: No worries, Our pleasure
Adam: Cheers.
