Before the first riffs echo through the fields of Catton Park, we are diving head first into the pulse-pounding world of the New Blood Stage at Bloodstock 2024. So grab your backstage pass, tune your senses, and join us as we explore the stories, inspirations, and the relentless drive of the bands who are rising to the masses! Introducing Lost To Light…
How would you describe your band to someone who’s never heard you?
Imagine if SpiritBox and Sleep Token had a baby.
Tell us about your band’s origin story. How did you all come together?
We’ve all been friends for years but never really came together as the format we are to write songs, however we’ve been in various bands with each other. It all kind of came together when our guitarist Daryl found love for writing again and it all just came together from there, it’s all about enjoying writing music together with your best mates.
What song would you recommend for someone’s first listen of your band?
Describe your songwriting process. How do you create your music?
We all contribute, but we like to be in a room together and write as a band. We all have home recording stations so it makes it easy to write riffs/add vocals etc and then we come together to flesh it all out.
How do you handle creative disagreements within the band?
We’re all quite blunt so if we need to deal with something we tend to deal with it there and then instead of letting it fester, but 9/10 we’re pretty in sync with each other. We’re best mates at the end of the day, that’s the most important thing.
What are your musical influences?
Spirit Box, Motionless In White, Devils Wears Prada, Sleep Token.
What’s the story behind your band name?
It’s actually a Destiny reference because we’re all massive gamers haha, it made the most sense as just like the music, it’s a combined love.
What’s your guilty pleasure music outside of metal?
Taylor Swift will always be the guilty pleasure.
Tell us about your most memorable live performance or tour experience.
Our debut show as LTL we played to a sold out 500 cap room, first song in and our laptop crashed so nothing worked.. we still carried on, but it couldn’t have happened at a better time!
What’s the most challenging aspect of being a metal band in today’s music industry?
The industry’s ever changing, keeping up with trends and the social media wave is always going to be the challenge.
Any advice for other aspiring metal musicians?
Just enjoy what you’re doing, don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t always go right the first time, enjoy the ride and reap the rewards.
What’s next after Bloodstock for the band?
We have a lot planned and a lot going on behind the scenes which will all come out soon, but for now we’re focusing on the upcoming E.P release and playing one of the best metal festivals in the UK.
How do you choose album artwork or visuals for your releases?
It’s usually down to lyrical concepts, there’s always a theme that follows the natural progression of songs. The artwork is just an extension of that in 1 physical format.
What’s the most unexpected inspiration for one of your songs?
There’s nothing really unexpected to be honest, all of our songs all mean something to each one of us in a particular way. I guess the most unexpected is that upon writing, we’ve all realised that we’re more alike than we thought, which has brought us closer together.
What’s the best gig you’ve attended as a fan and why?
Download 2014, seeing A7X and then Linkin Park playing Hybrid Theory was the most unreal experience.
Have you faced any challenges as an unsigned band? How do you overcome them?
There’s the obvious challenges that there are so many bands competing for the same thing, but the best way to overcome this is by remembering why we do it in the first place, the love of playing and creating something truly special.
How do you stay motivated during creative slumps?
Take a break, creativity can’t be forced or maybe a change of scenery to inspire you with new ideas.
Lost To Light are set to play The Hopical Storm New Blood Stage On Saturday 10th August 2024.
