Beauty School and Arm’s Length at The Night and Day Café in Manchester was a great showcase for how two incredible upcoming bands can pull off a joint headline show in a small venue. The show was full of energy, start to finish and the crowd was left wanting so much more.

First up was band called Midnight Swim, a band who could be seen as similar to bands like State Champs and With Confidence. They were very full of energy with good chemistry, making it clear they enjoyed performing and even on a cramped stage they all had a good time together without getting in each other’s way. Immediately they were ready to have a laugh and engage with crowd. They took to stage with energy and performed a highly professional set for a small band.

Beauty School were up next and with the energy they brought to stage you would not have been able to tell it was coming to the end of their tour. Vocalist, Joe Cabrera, was losing his voice but this did not stop him performing to the best of ability and putting on a show that the crowd loved. The sound quality of their set was outstanding for the venue that they were playing and this just furthered the atmosphere that immersed everyone in the room.

‘Take it Slow’ was very clearly a fan favourite with the whole crowd screaming the chorus louder than any song that came before it, however not quite as loud as they were for arguably the band’s most popular song ‘Pawn Shop Jewels’ which had everyone either moshing, crowd surfing, or screaming the lyrics.

The band were very humble and extremely grateful for their successful tour and left the stage to an ongoing amount of applause and cheering which clearly meant so much to them and was amazing to see.

Arm’s Length closed the show and the Canadian band did not disappoint. They absolutely killed it on stage and did not hold back. This was their first headline tour in a foreign country and they were so grateful to have the opportunity to return to the UK after they supported Hot Mulligan on tour earlier this year. It was clear that their confidence had grown so much since the last time they were in the UK and they looked so full of joy on that stage with the crowd singing all of their lyrics back at them.

Their song ‘Aries (Moth Song)’ was performed beautifully with no emotion held back, making the energy of the chorus all the more impactful. ‘In loving memory’ was another noteworthy track especially when the album title ‘Never Before Seen, Never Again Found’ was sung as it was screamed by the whole crowd as front man, Allen Steinberg, turned his mic to the crowd.

‘Up In Smoke’ was extremely lively with a lot of crowd surfers and plenty of moshing from the crowd, the band on stage were also dancing as much as they could while performing. This was one of their more recent singles and clearly was loved by fans.

Arm’s Length left the stage to a barrage of love from the crowd who clearly weren’t ready for the show to be done but hopefully they will be back in the UK soon enough.

All in all the show was amazing and thoroughly enjoyable and I would definitely recommend catching these bands to anyone who gets the chance.
