As Everything Unfolds have had quite the year since releasing their debut album ‘Within Each Lies The Other’ so it only seemed right for the band to end this chapter with a live show and that is exactly what took place on the 25th February 2022. The Camden Assembly hosted the band’s first headline show since the release of the album and to mark the occasion, the band announced they would be playing the album in full with support from Crashface and Heriot. Considering the album was at the top of our best of 2021 list (You can view our picks here), we had to check out this performance. Here’s what went down.
Kicking off the evening’s entertainment was Crashface who put on a polarizing set that got the diverse crowd moving as they grew into their performance. At first the band seemed nervous and unfortunately that reflected on the performance, however once the band dropped the track ‘Celebrity Christ’, the game changed and the group really came into their own. A lot of movement mixed with explosive personalities helped to sway the fans in attendance and by the time the band got to their final track ‘Murder Dream’, I think a lot of the people in attendance had become fans of the band.
Following them was Heriot who unfortunately suffered feedback issues as they started their set so they were forced to stop and do a quick soundcheck before resuming. To say their style was different from the rest of the bands would be an understatement as they ambushed the fans with a blackened style of metal complete with inhale screams and all. Fans definitely seemed split due to the chaotic nature of the band’s sound however I thought they sounded excellent. ‘Dispirit’ really hit home for me and the band’s stage presence allowed them to entertain the fans who may not have been keen on the more extreme metal sound.
The moment had finally come for As Everything Unfolds to take to the stage and From the first note of ‘Take Me There’ the room felt electric. Despite the room being jam-packed with fans, the pit opened and fans let loose. Charlie Rolfe’s vocal performance was on point throughout the night and was matched by her overwhelming levels of charisma. The band had the fans in the palm of their hands the entire night and the crowd participation really helped to elevate the show as a whole.
Despite not being a chronological playthrough of the album, It was clear that the crowd had done their homework as you could hear those in attendance singing each and every lyric back to the band. Tracks like ‘stay’ and ‘Greyscale’ really blew me away as both the fans and the band really gave it their all. As the night went on, the band dropped ‘Hiding From Myself’ to an insane reaction. The mosh pit was in full swing and even the people in the back couldn’t help but move. Following that was an unreleased track titled ‘Slow Down’ from the band’s upcoming album which went down like a treat. Closing out the set was the emotion-filled ‘Wither’ followed by the fan-favourite ‘On The Inside’ which sent the London crowd home in a frenzy.
It probably goes without saying but I think that As Everything Unfolds put on one hell of a show here. You could tell just how much it meant to each and every member of the band as the entire set you could catch them smiling as if they were living the dream, and for the majority of the fans in attendance, they delivered a performance to remember. I will definitely be along for the ride so I cannot wait to see what the band has in store for their fans.
