The war is over and the dust has settled, Bloodstock Open Air has come to a close and it’s certainly one that those who attended won’t soon forget. All the ice has melted, The booze, drunk and the energy that once brought Catton park to life have faded but fear not, you can relive the event of the hoard’s final battle here as we take a look back at a climactic Sunday at Bloodstock.
Puke, Piss and pleasure are all that remained from an eventful Saturday night full of partying and rule-bending; however, once the gates to the main arena opened one final time, fans filtered in to see what was on offer. A highlight of the day took place early on as Vended took to the stage to deliver their first ever performance in the UK to a huge turnout. Walls of death, circle pits and gut-wrenching vocals filled the scorched festival grounds with life once more and the spirits of those fallen soldiers slowly started to rise as the day went on.
Unfortunately, the festival would experience an incredible spike in heat which left stages looking a bit barren during the peak of the day. Many fans sought refuge anywhere that had shade with some opting to remain at their campsites until later in the evening. Due to this, the Sophie Lancaster stage and New Blood stage saw an awful lot of attention as fans who wanted to rock would flock between the two while seeking refuge from the unrelenting heat.
As the temperature started to decline, the entire atmosphere around the festival became a much more positive one. Pit’s became more ferocious and fans, in general, became happier to let loose one more time. It’s very British to complain about the heat however this wasn’t a nice experience for all in attendance.
The final band to take to the Ronnie James Dio stage was Lamb Of God! The Virginan based metal band wasted no time laying the Bloodstock hoard to rest as they delivered a high octane set full of some of their biggest hit tracks like ‘Walk With Me In Hell’, ‘11th Hour’ and ‘Ghost Walking’ saw massive crowd participation while final track ‘Redneck’ may have served up Bloodstocks largest circle pit to date. You did not want to pass up on this mother f**king invitation!
As the final night came to a close, many opted to head back and get a good night’s sleep however some would conga line their way other to the always exciting The Night Flight Orchestra who delivered a final, fun filled set full of dancing, singing and debauchery to send what remained of the Bloodstock masses home with nothing but a smile on their face and amazing memories.
What a festival this year’s Bloodstock has turned out to be! Despite the scorching temperatures, both fans and organizers managed to make this festival one to remember! A weekend full of brutal metal and chaotic fun has concluded and all that’s left to do now is wait patiently for Bloodstock 2023 where both Killswitch Engage and Megadeth will headline!
