We Got the Moves

Following the release of their latest album ‘Tekkno’ last year (Which made our ‘Best Of 2022’ list), Electric Callboy were back in the UK to finish off the first leg of their ‘Tekkno World Tour 2023’ in London. The tour had already seen the band hitting up venues as big as 20,000 over in Europe, and was set to be an exciting party to end the tour off. We headed down to the show, here’s what went down.

Berlin trio Future Palace were first to take to the stage, as the eager crowd were starting to fill the Apollo. Right from the start, their infectious energy swept through the crowd, getting some early movement within the venue. The final two songs of their set ‘Paradise’ and ‘Heads Up’ seemed to really go down well with the crowd.

Hot off the heels of their recent tour alongside I Prevail last month, Blind Channel were back ready to put a middle finger up to the town once again. Their high-octane set saw the band run through fan favourites songs such as ‘FLATLINE’, ‘Bad Idea’, and their cover of Anastacia’s 2004 superhit ‘Left Outside Alone’. The Finnish sixtet’s set wouldn’t have been complete without their Eurovision banger ‘Dark Side’, which saw one final shot of energy from both the band and fans as everyone bounced around with their middle fingers up!

The room was full of excitement as the house lights dimmed and the screens on stage lit the room. After a short introduction, the first notes of ‘Tekkno Train’ chugged the room to life, as if the band created a powerful locomotive with their sound ready to transport the crowd on an intense musical ride. It was clear from the offset that everyone in the room was ready to let loose – getting their dancing shoes on as the band went into ‘MC Thunder II (Dancing Like a Ninja)’.

The energy set out from the first two songs would continue throughout as the band played through their ‘Tekkno’ heavy setlist that was packed with banger after banger. It would have been nice to see the band add ‘Neon’ to the setlist and complete the full album, however even without it the set didn’t have a dull moment. It was particularly cool to see a Darude ‘Sandstorm’ drum solo from David Friedrich mid-set.

As the night grew old, the band didn’t let up – commanding the attention of everyone in the room, as they went into fan favourite ‘Hypa Hypa’. The relentless energy would continue with the band being joined by Maria Lessing of Future Palace for ‘Fuckboi’, before introducing the perfectly contrasting German Schlager meets metal with ‘Hurrikan’. The main set would end on a high of ‘MC Thunder’, which ended with an amusing thank you curtain draping the stage – picturing the band being excessively buff. Of course no one in the room was ready to say goodbye calling for ‘One More Song!’, and the band delivered with a three song encore of ‘Pump It’, ‘Spaceman’, and ‘We’ve Got The Moves’

Electric Callboy put on an unforgettable arena like show that wouldn’t soon be forgotten by those in attendance. The band’s ability to seamlessly blend a mix of genres, as well as their energetic stage presence, solidified their reputation as an exceptional live act. Electric Callboy truly electrified the stage, proving that they are a force to be reckoned within the heavy music scene. The band will be embarking on a tour of the rest of the UK later this year, I highly recommend heading down if you get a chance.
