Evile returned last year with their new album ‘Hell Unleashed’ which marked the end of their lengthy absence – with no new music released from 2013. So it’s safe to say fans had waited patiently to hear the band play new material and the wait was finally over as the thrash metal band took over London’s Boston Music Room with support from Tortured Demon and Divine Chaos. Here’s what went down.
Kicking off the night was the up and coming thrashers Tortured Demon. These guys know how to bring it as they captivated the packed room right from the off as they opened with ‘In Desperations Grip’. Their set was full of fast-paced riffs and an undeniable sense of aggression that saw the fans in attendance mosh and let loose. Highlights of their set had to be ‘Oppressed’ and ‘A Knee To The Face Of Corruption’ which saw the crowd grow into the band’s angst-filled style of thrash.
Following them was Divine Chaos, one of the most exciting band’s in the scene over the past few years and their performance on the night showed exactly why that was. Their set was full of energy as they dominated the stage and sent the crowd into a frenzy. It’s very rare the support has the fans singing every word of their songs back at them but Divine Chaos was clearly a fan favourite. The performance of ‘The Way To Oblivion’ was the icing on the cake for me and it’s safe to say the crowd were truly warmed up for the return of Evile.
Opening their set with ‘Paralysed’, Evile sounded as if they hadn’t missed a beat over their lengthy absence. As you would expect, the fans wasted no time letting their excitement out in the way of a massive pit that stretched from the stage to about halfway down the room. To match the energy of the crowd, the band put on a captivating set full of new and old tracks alike. ’Head Of The Demon’ had the room bellowing the lyrics back at the band, while ‘Cult’ definitely ended up being a fan favourite on the night.
As the set went on, Evile didn’t let up the assault of thrash so in return, the crowd continued to give it their all. ‘In Memoriam’ was a touching part of the set and the performance of ‘Hell Unleashed’ proved that the band have kept their standards extremely high despite the long wait for new music. Closing out the set was an animated performance of ‘Descent Into Madness’ followed by both ‘Infected Nation’ and ‘Enter The Grave’.
Sometimes a band’s performances can suffer due to a hiatus however Evile seem like they may be the best they have ever been. Their set flowed beautifully and their sound was near perfection. Fans in attendance left the Boston Music Room feeling satisfied and it’s clear that Evile are back for good.
