Hacktivist is one of those bands that seem to end up on every line-up ever and I can’t imagine how busy the band are with the constant touring they commit to. Headlining The Underworld in Camden always leads to a lot of sweat and even more energy from both the band and the crowd so this show promises to be a wet one. Here’s what went down!
Up first was Dead Slow and, unlike their name would suggest, their set was rapid and aggressive. They managed to get the crowd on board with their music quickly and had a circle pit going within a couple of songs. As for the music, it was perfect for those in attendance who wanted to bust out a two-step! Bold yet catchy beats matched with a harsh vocal performance was exactly what the London crowd wanted to kickstart their Thursday night off!
Following on from that was the charismatic Lake Malice, a three-piece band that packs a whole lot of punch! Despite having a criminally short set, the band had the crowd in the palm of their hands. Stage presence wasn’t an issue for these guys either, darting around the stage like a mad man, the levels of energy on display were simply astonishing. The only slight issue was the mic seemed to keep disconnecting from the PA but alas, the band persevered and put on one hell of a set to follow!
In true Hacktivist fashion, the room was already bouncing before the band had even taken to the stage. The very moment the band played the first note, the pit was going full force. Nothing was going to get in their way. When they dropped their self titled track, ‘Hacktivist’, the entire floor became one giant pit; Full of aggression and poise – the band kept the night flowing perfectly to create a beautiful piece of chaos in the heart of Camden Town.
I think it goes without saying that these guys were the loudest band in Camden that night as the entire room was vibrating via the bass coming from the drums. This seemed even more intense during the track ‘Anti-MC’! This tracks outro saw the pit completely let loose so I hope none of them had work the next day. To amplify the emotion in the room, Hacktivist dropped their cover of ‘Ni**as In Paris’ to send everyone into a frenzy. As the set went on, the momentum of the music carried the fans to the very end. ‘Rotten’ closed the night with a rap-metal BANG!
Hacktivist certainly tour a lot and due to that, I’m not surprised they know how to put on a show. The two supporting acts went down a treat with the crowd despite being completely different in terms of style and character. Hacktivist may just be the best thing to come out of Milton Keynes.
