The Loneliest

Most bands tease a new single by sharing short snippets on social media or with cryptic posts however, Italian Rockers Måneskin don’t do things the ordinary way. Instead of taking the easy route, the band opted to announce a surprise concert in Camden Town’s Underworld. First come, first serve while offering the tickets to fans willing to queue for FREE! This was a rare chance to see the band play in a tiny intimate venue so you just knew it was going to be something special. Here’s what went down!

Wasting no time at all, the band opened up with ‘Zitti E Buoni’ which was unsurprisingly met with a tsunami of cheers. A show for their most die-hard London fans meant that every word was sung at the top of everyones lungs which made the 500-capacity venue feel like an arena. ‘In Nome Del Padre’ brought the Måneskin swagger to the Underworld before ‘MammaMia’ caused the streets of Camden to shake as everyone danced along to its infectious beat. From Damiano’s remarkable stage presence to Victoria and Thomas dominating the stage with their axes of rock, the entire band had the crowd on strings right from the off.

Opening ‘Beggin’ saw Damiano jokingly say “Less work for me” as the crowd quickly took the intro vocals. Unsurprisingly, the energy in the room only seemed to grow during this track. It may be a cover in principle however Måneskin has really made this song their own and the fans will defend this version with their lives by the sounds of it. Teasing the new single, Damiano would say “Here’s our new single, But not that one” before launching into ‘Supermodel’. From this point on, the teasing of the new single would continue before every track. ‘For Your Love’ would see the room sing in unison, all those school assemblies had clearly paid off, while ‘Lividi Sui Gomiti’ brought out the crowd’s heavier side.

Declaring that there was “Only One Song” between the crowd and the new single, Damiano would jokingly ask if they should skip it to which 99% of the room said No however he was quick to ask “Who Said Yes” and laughed as he told them to leave. If the room requested this track be skipped it would have seen one of the best moments of the night disappear. ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave’ completely sent the crowd into overdrive. Singing, dancing and even crying would ensue during this track as the band tore down The Underworld. Encouraging a “Jump The F**k Up” moment before the song kicked back in was always gonna be interesting in such a packed venue but they managed to get it done.

It was finally the moment everyone had been waiting for, the debut of ‘The Loneliest’, a highly emotional track that dials back the more hard-hitting rock aesthetic and shows the band in a much more vulnerable light. The crowd couldn’t help but sway along to its beat and fans quickly caught on to the words of the chorus and started singing them back at the band. Måneskin left the stage and I believe they thought that was it, however, the London crowd had other ideas. The entire room chanted for “One More Song” and the band’s crew quickly turned the amps back on and Måneskin would return to the stage with Damiano expressing how he’d “Already Got Undressed” before giving the fans a second performance of the new single ‘The Loneliest’. This time, nearly everyone had caught on to the lyrics and I have to admit, it was truly special seeing and hearing everyone singing the new track together.

Seeing a band of Måneskin’s stature playing in a venue like The Underworld certainly doesn’t come around often, let alone for free! Those fans who were dedicated enough to camp out for a ticket got a performance that may never be repeated again and got to be part of a truly special night in the band’s career. It was certainly a long day however Måneskin put on one hell of a performance and made the wait worth it!
