Twin Atlantic returned to the iconic Roundhouse to kick off their 10th anniversary tour for their 2011 gold certified record ‘Free’. Bringing along an all Scottish line-up the night promised to be an unmissable tribute to the popular album, I just had to head down and check it out. Here’s what went down.

The night got underway straight away with the Dead Pony, who got the night off to a great start with their unique sound. I thoroughly enjoyed the band’s set and am interested to see what they do next. They have a great sound and think they could easily be filling spaces like The Roundhouse on their own in no time. I highly recommend checking them out.

Not letting an ounce of energy go to waste, Declan Welsh & The Decadent West took to the stage. It was a zestful set, as the frontman Declan Welsh swayed from song to song, using his guitar as a dance partner. The band played excellently and are another one I recommend checking out for sure.

Taking to the stage, Twin Atlantic played effortlessly through ‘Free’ in full, not even wasting time on chit chat between songs. You wouldn’t believe this was the first time the band had played through the album in full, really bringing to life both fan favourites and the deeper cuts from the album.

Leaving the stage, it was clear that the room desired more and not to leave fans short changed, the band kept the set going. Coming back to the stage frontman Sam McTrusty commented about that being the albums first play through before jokingly saying “You don’t know how hard it was not to say anything between ‘Free’ songs”

As the night started to grow old Sam commented about how this was the bands “longest set they’ve played in 15 years”, giving London an extended set because it’s become like a “second home”. The bands ability to captivate fans as they played through hits was great to see.

Backed in full force by two energetic and memorable up and coming supports, whilst also putting on an amazing performance, this show was a great celebration of an fantastic album – which I can see staying great for another decade. Roll on ‘Free’ 20th Anniversary tour in 2032…
