Waterparks has created a fanbase of die-hard followers and it comes as no surprise that their UK tour sold extremely well this time around! Halloween is always a night of spooky vibes and what better way to spend it than at the pop punk show! Taking over London’s Roundhouse, Waterparks were eager to put on a spooktacular event. Here’s what went down!
The opening act, Australian punk-pop band Stand Atlantic, set the tone for the night, captivating the audience with a dynamic performance. In Halloween spirit, the band were dressed in a Barbie-Stien theme with the majority of the band donning looks from the recent Barbie movie, while singer Bonnie Fraser opted for an Albert Einstein outfit. Debuting a new song titled ‘Sex On The Beach’ and filling the set with hits such as ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Dumb’, and closing out with ‘Molotov [OK]’ allowed the band to well and truly warm up the Waterparks crowd.
Waterparks took the stage with the electrifying ‘St*rfucker’ emerging from the shadows into a rainbow of lighting. Frontman Awsten Knight embodied a pope, lead guitarist Geoff Wigington as a priest, and drummer Otto Wood in theme as a nun. From this point forward, the crowd and band seemed to become one. The energy in the room was electric and tears of joy were shed along the barrier.
During ‘2 Best Friends’, Awsten took a break to FaceTime his mother in quite a humble moment. After a lighthearted exchange, he playfully hung up on her, leading to cheers and laughter from the audience. Quite ironically the next song ‘Fuck About It’ seemed to pop off quite well with fans and that energy would only be elecvated with performances of tracks such as ‘ Magnetic’, ‘Telephone’, and ‘Ritual’. Embracing the British spirit, Waterparks covered Oasis’ iconic ‘Wonderwall’ even asking the crowd for the chords, which they gladly provided. This would be the opening of a short acoustic set consisting of the likes of ‘Violet!’, ’21 Questions’, and ‘High Definition’. Closing out the main set the dynamic duo of ‘Closer’ and ‘A Night Out On Earth’, before an encore that featured three powerful songs, with ‘Real Super Dark’ prompting Awsten to encourage massive mosh pits on either side of the crowd. The energy carried through to the final two songs, ‘Turbulent’ and a closing number of ‘Funeral Grey’.
Waterparks may not be the biggest band in the scene but they mean the absolute world to their fans. From the way Awsten interacts with them during the show to just the raw emotion on display throughout these sets is something truly remarkable to witness. They aren’t for everyone but if you get it, you’re in for a wild time!
