English pop punker’s WSTR recently embarked on a sixteen date run of shows across the UK visiting a variety of venues along the way. With the band on the cusp of a new album coming “soon”, we had to head down to one of their show’s to check out what the band were up to. We caught their show at The Boileroom Guildford, here’s what went down.

Bouncing into their set, chaotic Glasgow pop punkers Misplaced took to the stage setting the bar high in terms of the energy expected at The Boileroom on the rainy Tuesday evening. The eager audience relayed the energy back to the band as they played through their set which included many songs from their own catalog alongside a faithful cover of Good Charlotte. The room really started popping off as the band went into playing ‘fate & fairytales’ with quite a few managing to sing along to it. A great start to the night!

Misplaced

WSTR got straight into their set with ‘JOBBO’ continuing to bring the energy set out by Misplaced. With pits breaking out from the offset it was clear to see that the crowd was ready to witness what Sammy Clifford and co had in store for them. The band kept the energy high as they jumped back to 2017’s ‘Red, Green or Inbetween’ with ‘Lonely Smiles’ followed by ‘Footprints’.

Making use of the space available to him, Sammy paced back and forth across the stage throughout the set, often climbing onto the barriers to get a closer look at the pits that were ensuing. The band took a moment to acknowledge their replacement drummer, John, after Sean unfortunately had to go home from tour early due to illness. Even with only having 24hrs to learn the songs John smashed the set, especially as they went through 2018’s ‘Bad To The Bone’, ‘Silly Me’, and ‘See You In Hell’.

Despite only being out for just over a week, Guildfords devoted WSTR fan’s sung the band’s newest song ‘Bot Lobby’ back effortlessly before the band went into ‘All The Rage’, which went down just as well. Sammy caved to the demands of fans as he chugged from a bottle of Fireball before launching into ‘Crisis’. Unfortunately the night was almost coming to an end, with the band announcing that they hope to be back in Guildford at some point after having a “fun night”, with only room for one more song WSTR got the crowd going one final time for ‘Filthy’, easily garnering the biggest reaction of the night from the audience.

While this might have been the band’s first time playing Guildford, it doesn’t look like it’ll be the last with both the band and fans looking like they really enjoyed the evening. Both Misplaced and WSTR put on some fantastic high energy sets, which went down well with those in attendance.
