Travelling bands from around the world have found it hard to tour since the return of live music, so it comes as no surprise that Australian based Yours Truly decided they wanted one last show after finishing their tour with Holding Absence. The Aussie pop-punk band announced an intimate show at the Old Blue Last in London and invited fans down for one last night of excitement before they headed back down under. Here is how the night went.
Opening up for Yours Truly was stayMellow, a new and upcoming artist who managed to get the attention of some new fans as he played his unique blend of pop-punk mixed with a sprinkle of hip-hop. The set was quite short but I think that can be forgiven as they only have two released songs to date and filled their set with unreleased material that was received well by most of the crowd. The band were full of energy and just seemed happy to be there which made for quite an enjoyable set.Â
Yours Truly wasted little time as they kicked their set off with ‘Ghost’. Instantly the energy in the room picked up and people were dancing and singing along with the band which only amplified as they went into ‘Circles’. The small pub venue added to the atmosphere as the fans were within touching distance of the band which made it feel like they were a huge part of the show. As the show went on the fans seemed to let loose more and more. ‘Glass Houses’ had everyone grooving to its infectious rhythm while ‘Together’ saw the first pit of the night break out.Â
Following that was ‘Composure’ and I must admit, I’ve never seen someone crowd surf backwards so I guess there is a first for everything. The tiny room seemed larger than life at times as fans lost themselves in the grooves and lyrics being supplied by Yours Truly. ‘Undersize’ slowed the pace of the show down and had the fans providing backing vocals when needed just for the temp to be picked right back up with ‘Siamese Souls’. Moshers and groovers let loose while they could and there was a real feeling of bliss in the air on the night.Â
‘Funeral Home’ was up next and it was clear that Yours Truly were planning on leaving everything they had in London, as they had the crowd jumping as one and singing in unison before an explosion of energy came along with ‘Walk Over My Grave. Despite it coming to the end of their set, it was as if they’d just walked out, High intensity and powerful delivery made this quite a memorable moment. ‘High Hopes’ dropped in and the crowd lost it. People reciting the track word for word, Dancers losing themself into the rhythm and even the ones at the back seemed to liven up with this one. This song is by far the bands biggest song and it’s clear to see why. Finishing up the night was ‘Heartsleeve’ which served as a chance for the band and the fans to share one last moment together. It was a great way to top off a special night in London.
Overall, Yours Truly proved that they have what it takes to put on one hell of a show no matter where they are. The obvious connection they shared with their fans was quite the thing to behold while the atmosphere in the room on the night was truly electric. I think there are big things on the way from Yours Truly and I’d highly recommend keeping an eye on them in the future.
