London’s rebellious new up and comers, Crashface, have just released their explosive new experimental EP ‘Prototype’. The new release is set to continue with their well known energy whilst also allowing the band to throw some new ideas at the wall to see “what will stick”. I had to check out what this EP had in store, so here are my thoughts on ‘Prototype’.
Kicking off the EP, ‘Scream’ wastes little time in setting the tone for the rest of the release – igniting the band’s fiery energy from the moment it drops. The band’s signature aggressive vocals and electrified instrumentation are on full display, helping to encapsulate your senses, keeping you exhilarated and hungry for more. ‘Lovedoom’ follows, giving off ‘Motionless In White’ vibes whilst still staying uniquely Crashface. This track carries an abundance of energy, and will be sure to ignite some intense circle pits in a live setting.
Proclaiming “Look ma no hands”, ‘No Hand’ easily takes the crown for the catchiest hook on the EP, embedding itself in the listener’s mind. The blend of the track’s raw energy combined with its memorable hooks will be sure to help make this track an instant fan favorite, and will be another crowd pleaser in a live setting. As its name says, ‘Goosebumps’ has a bit of an eerie sound to it. If you’d told me this song was from Enter Shikari, I’d have been hard pressed to say otherwise. Its bouncey energy is infectious throughout its three minute runtime.
Creating a welcome respite within the album, ‘Flak Jacket’ allows the duo to explore a bit of a different sound. Whilst it might be the slowest song on the EP, that doesn’t mean it lacks energy, being engaging throughout and not allowing you to get bored. I really love the EP closer ‘Steel’, which picks up the pace from its predecessor. It’s another sure fire conqueror of circle pits in a live setting.
Crashface’s ‘Prototype’ EP is a must-listen for anyone craving an adrenaline-fueled rock experience. The punchy release will sit well with fans of Nova Twins, Motionless In White, and Hot Milk. It’s great to hear the band exploring some different sonic territories whilst still staying true to their sound. From the relentless energy of ‘Scream’ to the catchy hooks of ‘No Hands’, it’s clear that these songs will all come into their own (and belong) in the band’s live set – hopefully fans will be able to witness these songs come to life later this year when the duo perform their Download Festival set.
