Delaire The Liar are back with their new EP titled ‘Eat Your Own’ which has had fans eager for its release ever since the single ‘Halloween’ dropped earlier this year. The band have been making quite the name for themselves by putting on emphatic live sets on their recent tour with Vukovi, so what better way to capitalise on the newfound attention than dropping some brand new music! Here’s what I thought of Delaire The Liar’s ‘Eat Your Own’ EP.
Opening the EP is ‘No Entry’, An emotional delivery accompanied by a sombre piano instrumental that allows the vocal work of this track to really shine through. It’s a short track just breaking the two-minute mark but it’s a great mood setter for the EP. Following on from that is ‘Furnance’ and I found myself instantly hooked on this song’s use of pacing. Using breaks and rests in the instrumental in quite an imaginative way, Delaire The Liar really know how to utilise a more eccentric style that most bands would stray away from. It’s a strong start to the new release.
‘No Thanks’ adds a bit of groove to the EP. An upbeat track that will have fans dancing around their rooms while blaring this one from the speakers for the neighbours to hear. A very pop-punk esc feel is given off from this track and I think it works especially well with the style the band are trying to portray. Continuing down the Pop Punk vein, ‘Halloween’ is a decent entry onto the ep which has its moments of greatness. The song really shines in the latter half of the track as it just feels so much more impactful than the first half. So much more emotion is on display which makes the song feel a little lopsided.
Nearing the end of the EP and ‘No Accident’ slows the pace down again and allows fans to feel the emotion behind this sombre track. The highly emotional lyrics make for an intense listen as they really pull on your heartstrings, while the raw emotion behind each note can be heard throughout the song’s entirety building up to a climactic ending that transfers us right into the final track ‘Dog’. By far the quickest song on the EP, this song is a great culmination of everything this release has had to display. Highly emotional with a bunch of angst, a recipe to an alt fans heart.
Overall, I think Delaire The Liar has released a solid EP that shows just how much the band has grown over the past couple of years. It’s a massive step up from their ‘Not Punk Enough’ EP back in 2018 and I have no doubt that existing fans of the band will fall in love with this release just as they did with their debut. The future of Delaire The Liar looks bright so keep them on your radar.
