EP Review: Lake Malice – Post-Genesis

October 25, 2023 | Reviewed By

A name that has been making a lot of noise within the alternative music scene recently is Lake Malice. From tours with Hacktivist, Bloodywood, As Everything Unfolds, and Skindread to name a few, there is a high chance you’ve come across this exciting new prospect! Their new EP ‘Post-Genesis’ is set to be their biggest release to date so we decided to check it out! Here is what we thought of it.

A nice introduction to the Malice sound kicks off the EP as ‘Blossom’ brings the groove as well as a heavy-hitting beat. Mixing breakdowns with a hint of Europop is an interesting blend but it works wonders for them. The ability to go from brutality to tranquillity is something that helps them stand out massively and the outro of this track is something truly mesmerising. Leaning more into the techno influences, ‘Black Turbine’ feels straight out of a European alternative club night. Get your dancing shoes on as this track’s infectious groove will send you into a dancing frenzy!

If speed is something you are looking for then ‘Bloodbath’ is the perfect soundtrack for you to throw down to. High energy mixed with a hint of serenity, this song balances both sides of the alternative music spectrum in a way that is just a pleasure to listen to. Moshers rejoice as Lake Malice have ‘Power Game’ just for you. A beefy beat dominates the song’s chorus and encourages you too just let loose before introducing some nasty chugging riffs.

Keeping the energy levels high is ‘Mitsuko’. An infectious beat that’ll sticks with you long after the song ends is always a good sign. The sheer chaos that unfolds during this track is something that will be an absolute marvel to hear live. Not wanting to be a buzz kill but everything must come to an end and ‘Stop The Party’ is a pretty strong way of ending this EP. Already one of the band’s most successful singles, the song is a pure joy from start to finish. Techno and metal is a trend that I’m so glad is here to stay and this song is a shining example of just how good it can be!

Lake Malice may be one of the hardest-working bands out there right now. They seem to be on a never-ending tour and to produce an EP of such high quality during their hectic travels is truly awe-inspiring. There is something extremely special within this music so be sure to keep a keen eye on them!
