Lorna Shore has had certainly had a hectic few years from original singer Tom Barber leaving the band to their replacement singer receiving allegations of misconduct in a prior relationship, no one knew what the future had in store for the deathcore outfit. Touring Vocalist Will Ramos has stepped up to the plate to front the band’s new EP titled ‘And I Return To Nothingness’. The EP is the first time Will has featured on a Lorna Shore record and it promises to pave the way for the future of the band. There is a lot of hype around this release due to the prolific nature of the band so without further delay, Here is my review of Lorna Shore’s ‘And I Return To Nothingness’.
The album opens up with the quite atmospheric feeling before Will’s unearthly vocals shatter the emersion. The track has elements of the style Lorna Shore managed to pull off on their 2020 release ‘Immortal’ however, there is something far more raw to it. Will brings a lot of emphasis and charisma that seemed lacking on prior releases and he manages to make the song feel so much larger than it is. Not to mention just how impactful the blistering instrumental is.
Following that is the track ‘Off The Abyss’. This song goes in hard and takes no prisoners. Rapid pacing accompanied by a barrage of high and low pitched screams to add diversity to the track makes this song something to behold. Boasting an infection beat that will have even the most timid fan banging their head along to its breakneck rhythm, Lorna Shore is constantly evolving and this is certainly a good sign if this is the direction the band are planning on going in.
If you are a fan of deathcore and you haven’t at least heard the name ‘To The Hellfire’ recently then you must have been living under a rock. The debut single of Lorna Shore fronted by Will Ramos that took the metal world by storm and for good reason. Featuring some of the most brutal breakdowns you’ll hear this year, The track is an absolute behemoth. Insanely quick fills and riffs litter the song while Will delivers some of the most demonic screams I’ve heard in recent memory. As the song draws closer to the end, you can expect one of the most brutal breakdowns period, Accompanied by a scream that wouldn’t sound out of play in a Call of Duty Zombies game. This song is something else and I am loving every moment of it.
Lorna Shore has released one hell of an EP and giving the circumstances, this may be one of the most impressive releases of the year. From a point of uncertainty to releasing some of the bands best work to date, I think it’s safe to say that, as long as nothing drastic happens, Lorna Shore’s future looks brighter than ever and I truly believe that Will Ramos is the perfect fit for the deathcore band.
