Meg Myers is a name you may not have heard a lot about however she has sent shockwaves around the rock world with her unique sound that gives off Nine Inch Nails vibes. Not wanting to be pinned down by one genre, her music often takes on a life of its own and her new album titled ‘Tzia’ promises to expand her sound even further! Here’s how I found the new record!Â
Opening the album is the angelic sounds of ‘Children Of Light II’, a heavenly esc track with a foreboding beat that drives the song forward into the listener’s memory. This is further complimented by a smooth transition into ‘A New Society which switches from peace into a more dangerous feeling number. Bringing more of an attitude to the record, this song captures a more methodic side of Meg Myers while still capturing her unique industrial esc sound.
As the album goes on you are treated to several electronic-sounding rock tracks that not only pack a punch but offer something fresh and new to the scene. ‘Me’ gives off a much more in-your-face feel with its simple yet pronounced percussion while tracks like ‘Htis’, ‘T33nagers’ and ‘My Mirror’ show a much more delicate side of Meg Myers with much more focus on her diverse and stunning vocal delivery rather than creating a beefy instrumental.Â
It’s clear that Meg isn’t afraid of pouring her emotions into her music and ‘I Just Wanna Touch Somebody’ is a shining example of this. A track about caring and the feeling of wanting to care for someone else is sure to tug on the heartstrings upon listening. Following this is ‘Waste Of Confetti’ which follows themes of depression and how the need to please others can become overbearing in one’s mental state. A powerful track with a powerful instrumental to match.Â
Next up is a song every rock fan will recognise, a cover of Linkin Park’s ‘Numb’ that incorporates Meg’s style and creates a very unique rendition of the nu-metal classic. Returning to original material, the trilogy of ‘Ovaries Speak’, ‘Searching For The Truth’ and ‘Tzia’ return to more powerful vocals complimented by silky melodies. These tracks give off a lot of attitudes and portray Meg’s character as a powerful yet emotional one.Â
As the album’s conclusion draws near, ‘Bluebird’ comes in to jerk those tears from your eyes. An extremely sad and moving number that opens with a verse that wouldn’t sound out of place at a funeral. Maybe have a box of tissues ready for this one. Lifting spirits a bit is ‘Sophia_144_’ which explores themes of unison and comradery opposed to morning. Sending the album down the river is ‘ElevenEleven’ which is quite emotional yet uplifting. Themes of loss are explored however the realisation of those who have gone never, truly leave you is a fitting way to end this rollercoaster of an album.
If deeply emotional tracks are your thing then Meg Myers has created a perfect album for you. Her blend of pop and rock breaks a lot of genre boundaries but that’s an amazing thing. Each track gives off a life of its own and it’s a rare that an album feels as if it has zero skippable tracks!Â
