I’m sure fans of the band Rammstein will be thrilled that the band’s new album ‘Zeit’ has been released just 3 years after the band’s self-titled album. The album promises to be a culmination of the band’s evolution over the years with every single release garnering massive amounts of attention. Here’s what I thought of the new album!Â
Opening the album is ‘Armee Der Tristen’. A classic sounding Rammstein track topped off with a classy operatic feel. The band have changed a lot over the years but their industrial sound is something that has followed them through it. The synth sounds extremely crisp during this recording and it adds a lot to the quite simplistic instrumental. Title track ‘Zeit’ is up next and this song gives me similar vibes to the style the band went for on the track ‘Deutschland’ on the previous record. Starting off calm and sombre the song gradually builds up to a more explosive sound as the track progresses.Â
‘Schwarz’ is up next and I feel this song won’t blow fans away however, it has a very unique feel to it which makes it a joy to listen to on an album playthrough. It’s one of those songs that people will like but probably won’t be adding to all their playlists. Following that is the eccentric ‘Giftig’. This sound brings out the danceability a lot of Rammstein tracks oddly have. Its upbeat nature is matched with a bouncy instrumental that will get itself stuck in your head for days on end.Â
Continuing down the album and you get to ‘Zick Zack’. This is probably my favourite track on the entire album as it screams old school Rammstein vibes. A much more industrial song with hints of their more theatre esc vibe that has become more and more prevalent over recent releases. It’s mixed extremely well and I just couldn’t help myself from returning to this track at every given moment. With a very misleading name, ‘OK’ is quality. Returning to a more upbeat style, Till’s vocal delivery really helps this song hit home. This track may come across as slightly repetitive to some however I think it works perfectly for this style of music.Â
Entering the latter half of the album ‘Meine Tränen’ brings the tempo down but the emotions up. The song is played in an extremely delicate fashion to allow each note to hit exactly as it was intended to. The instrumental has moments of pure bliss scattered throughout this one so I’d highly recommend giving this one a whirl. ‘Angst’ probably has the most fitting name on the entire album as the song is just an angst-filled assault of industrial metal. Now if your looking for a blend of the carnival and metal, ‘Dicke Titten’ is the song for you. This track has a crazy amount of funk to it which helps it stand apart from the rest of the album and be one of the top songs.Â
As the album draws to a close ‘Lügen’ brings the album down to a harrowing note. A delicate track with sudden bursts of aggression emits quite a sinister feel. Musically, the song is a pleasure to listen to however, the vocal effects are a little odd in my opinion. Finishing off the album is the track ‘Adieu’, a fitting title for a final track. As for the song, it is almost a culmination of all the styles featured on this album which makes perfect scenes on paper and actually works surprisingly well in practice.Â
Rammstein has returned with a very good album to add to their already impressive discography. There are very few surprises from the band here however, they have released a captivating record that will undoubtedly attract the attention of old and new fans.Â
