Album Review: Suicide Silence – Remember… You Must Die

Suicide Silence once had the world of Deathcore at their feet however due to the passing of their vocalist and fans and critics alike not really digging their last release, many had wondered if the band would be able to regain their throne. Their new album ‘Remember… You Must Die’ promises to be something new and promising for fans of the band. Here’s what I thought of the release!

The album opens with an ambient track titled ‘Remember…’ that creates a creepy and alarming feeling that sets the tone for the rest of the record nicely. The album quickly launches into ‘You Must Die’, a brutally heavy song that doesn’t hold back on the blast beats or intensity! ‘Capable Of Violence (N.F.W)’ continues the brutality with a plethora of chugging riffs and intense vocals. This is a song that will have the mosh pit crew going wild!

Up next is the innocently named ‘Fucked For Life’ and as the name would suggest, this song delivers a level of intensity that will doom your neck for the rest of your life. Headbanging is not only encouraged, but it’s also mandatory for this one! As the album charges forward the heaviness doesn’t subside with tracks like ‘Kill Forever’, ‘God Be Damned’ and ‘Alter Of Self’ all delivering an unrelenting and gimmick-free sound that really captures a new side of Suicide Silence.

‘Endless Dark’ comes in hot and heavy, gets its job done swiftly and leaves you before you even know what’s hit you. The track is over within 2 and a half minutes, yet it packs one of the hardest punches on the entire album! Not wanting to be shown up, however, ‘The Third Death’ brings a much more methodical essence to the record. Changing from blitzing riffs to beating down esc percussion seamlessly is a recipe for a hellish pit!

As the record draws to its final place of rest, ‘Be Deceived’ leaves a little to be desired. Its intensity just doesn’t match everything else on the album unfortunately and the song itself lacks that killer instinct. Thankfully ‘Dying Life’ ironically resurrects the energy generated throughout the record and delivers one hell of a satisfying listening experience! Closing out the record is ‘Full Void’ and despite a sombre opening, the song slams the coffin shut with one hell of a final blow. A track full to the brim with grit and devastation is sure to please even the most hardened of Deathcore snobs out there (Even if they won’t admit it)!

This album is a return to form from Suicide Silence after what has been a lacklustre few years. It certainly isn’t the Suicide Silence of old however they aren’t trying to be. This is without a doubt a new era of the Deathcore legends and I am fully onboard for this ride!
