AC/DC s New Single ‘Shot In The Dark’ Comes out on Wednesday 7th, this will be the first new music heard from the band since 2014’s ‘Rock Or Bust’ album, a tease for the song was released over the weekend. The 2014 album saw the original members split away from the band in various way. Before the recording of ‘Rock or Bust’, rhythm guitarist Malcom Young was forced to leave due to ongoing dementia and other health issues. Young’s nephew Stevie replaced Malcolm as rhythm guitarist. The bands drummer Phil Rudd was unable to tour with the album after being arrested in November 2014, and sentenced to 8 months of house arrest for possession of methamphetamine and marijuana, and threatening to kill someone.
Frontman Brian Johnson was forced to leave mid tour in 2016, as doctors told him he’d risk permanently losing his hearing if he continued. Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses replaced Johnson to finish the tour. Bassist Cliff Williams announced that he would be retiring from the group shortly before the end of the tour. However, this week the band announced that they would be reuniting.
Although the information on who was going to be re-joining AC/DC was kept secret, so much so that long-time band recording engineer, Mike Fraser, has now admitted that he didn’t know who was in the band until they arrived into Vancouver’s Warehouse studio. Fraser didn’t know Brian Johnson, Cliff Williams, and Phil Rudd were set to appear on the upcoming album, rumoured to be titled PWR/UP, until he was informed by a crew member who was setting up the bands gear.
Talking to ACDCFans.net, Mike Fraser Said “As far as I knew, Brian had retired, Cliff had retired, and with Phil, and some of his problems he’s had in his home country [New Zealand], who knew if he was even gonna be allowed out of his country”
“Walking into the studio in Vancouver for the first day, I had no idea what was gonna happen. When I got there, none of the band had arrived yet, but a lot of their techs were there, getting things moved into the studio and set up, and one of the guys said, ‘Hey, you know what’s going on?’ And I said, ‘I have no idea. I just know we’re here and we’re setting up.’ And he goes, he says, ‘Well, the whole band’s here: Brian, Cliff, Phil and Stevie, and they’re here and we’re ready to rock another record.’ So, man, it was such a shocking, awesome surprise.”
We’re certainly excited to see what’s next for AC/DC stay tuned to The Rock Fix to get more updates on the bands upcoming album.
