Metalcore band Architects have claimed their first UK Number one in the exceptionally close race for this weeks top spot.

The Brighton band’s ninth album ‘For Those That Wish To Exist’, finished the week with just 550 chart sales ahead of their closest competition, Maxïmo Park’s new album ‘Nature Always Wins’.

Celebrating the win and paying tribute to late bandmate Tom Searle, Singer Sam Carter said to Official Charts “I cannot begin to tell you how much this means to us. Thank you to every single person who bought this record. We love you so much and we could not have done this without you.”

‘For Those That Wish To Exist’ not only gives the band their first UK No 1, but also their first UK Number 10 as well. Previously the band have peaked at No 15 in the charts with ‘All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us’.

The band’s new album also becomes the band’s sixth Number 1 on the Rock And Metal Albums chart, and is also the best-selling album on vinyl, and top seller in independent record shops.

Maxïmo Park ‘Nature Always wins’ becomes the bands first UK Top 10 album in seven years, with 2014’s ‘Too Much Information’, and matches their previous peak earned with 2007’s ‘Our Earthly Pleasures’.

Rapper Digga D comes in at number 3, with rock legend Alice Cooper entering the Charts at No 4 with ‘Detroit Stories’, his highest-charting album since 1991’s ‘Hey Stoopid’, which also peaked at 4.

Lucy Spraggan’s sixth album ‘Choices’ lands at Number 5, the singer-songwriter’s highest-charting record to date. This means the entire Top 5 is an all-new Top 5.
