Meat Loaf – whose real name is Marvin Lee Aday (also known as Michael) – was best known for his 1977 debut rock album ‘Bat Out of Hell’. The album was composed by Jim Steinman (who also unfortunately died just last year at age 73), and was developed from the musical “Neverland” – a futuristic rock version of Peter Pan – which Steinman wrote for a workshop in 1974.
The rock legend sold over 100 million albums worldwide and was also known with his appearance in movies like ‘Fight Club’, the ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ and ‘Wayne’s World’.
Steinman and Meat Loafâs 1993 follow-up album ‘Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell’ produced the global hit single ‘Iâd Do Anything for Love (But I Wonât Do That)’. It was his only UK No 1 single, spending seven weeks at the top of the charts.
The news of his death has prompted a number of tributes from around the world.
Cher – who worked with the singer on the 1981 track ‘Dead Ringer for Love’ – said she “had so much fun with meatloaf” when working on their collaboration.
