Bloodstock Announce Huge Black Metal Icon!

With the festival season drawing ever closer, Bloodstock Festival (which is just 135 days away) has had to break the unfortunate news that DevilDriver has pulled out of this year’s festival, however the organisers have soften the blow with the announcement of a huge black metal icon being added to the line up as a replacement.

Dez from DevilDriver has issued a message to fans addressing the issue, explaining that “In 2021, I came down with Covid which left me with heart problems. I had to live downstairs in my house, as could barely walk more than a few feet without collapsing. I, in fact was saying goodbye to my family at the time and didn’t think I would pull through.”

Dez’ recovery wasn’t quick with it taking him “14 months to get to a point where I could perform again on stage.” with his cardiologist asking him “to not take any long flights this year at all, as we monitor the situation.”

He went onto say “It has been a very long road for myself and my family, but I am returning to form. Even on tour now with DevilDriver, I must do the show, then go straight to my bunk to rest, as I still have inflammation in my lower heart and it’s that what’s preventing me from taking flights overseas. So with the heaviest of hearts that devudriver must pull down our long awaited Bloodstock performance. I am sorry if this causes any inconvenience and I hope within the next 12-24 months to get the all clear from my doctor to fly and tour overseas.”

It’s not all is doom and gloom however as the Bloodstock team have secured the legendary Norwegian Black Metal icon Abbath to step in for DevilDriver. Abbath does not often venture out to the UK and he hasn’t been at Bloodstock since his performance with Immortal back in 2011. Abbath had this to say “We’re really looking forward to be coming back to the UK to shake the Bloodstock foundation. It’s been way too long!”

Another band dropping off the line-up is Nonpoint which has seen Bossk move higher up on the bill for the Sophie Lancaster Stage and Thrash heavens Pest Control being added to the line-up to keep the festival as ferocious as ever.

If you have been to Bloodstock before, you will know that the festival is much more than just the bands playing it and the Bloodstock team are happy to announce that RockFit will be returning to this year’s festival! Known for its mix of cardio, dance, and intense body-sculpting workouts matched to some of your favourite rock and metal tracks, the fan-favourite activity will have a 45-minute class on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10:15 AM in the main arena.

For those of you more interested in indulging in some unique foods over the weekend then Bloodstock will be welcoming back the famous Black Ice Cream! With the announcement of the ungodly Abbath, this may be the perfect piece of food to capture a scenic photo for your insta!
