Dingwalls Camden To Change Name After Copyright Issues

The North London venue Dingwalls is to change its name to The PowerHaus after a copyright issues prevented the use of the original name.

The 500 capacity venue is located adjacent to Camden Lock and was named after the original owner of the building T.E. Dingwall. The building opened as a venue in the summer of 1973, and has hosted acts such as The Clash, The Strokes, and Foo Fighters.

The Camden venue was sold to veteran promoter Vince Power back in June, who will now be rebranding it to The PowerHaus, which is a name of one of his old venues in Finsbury Park.

The promoter hosted bands such as Radiohead, The Stone Roses, Blur, and Primal Scream at the original PowerHaus. “I hope to continue in this tradition and have artists of this calibre at The PowerHaus Camden, which has been refurbished and is nearly ready to open” Power said to the Evening Standard

He adds β€œIt’s not all about the name but I am sad the name Dingwalls cannot be used as I have some great memories associated with it. But we are looking to the future and the future is bright. The PowerHaus will probably be the best venue in Camden.”

This news comes as many venues have started reopening after being closed because of the coronavirus, however many venues are still in dire need of support as opening socially distanced is just not viable, recently a petition was created to extend furlough scheme for the events industry. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/329174
