Marilyn Manson Denies Abuse Allegations “Horrible Distortions Of Reality”

Yesterday, Evan Rachel Wood made allegations against Marilyn Manson, accusing the singer of grooming, abuse, and manipulation.

In the past, Wood has given testimony about an abusive relationship she had been in for several years with a man she met in her late teens. While Woods never specified who the man was, Wood gave a similar testimony about an abusive relationship to a House Judiciary Subcommittee in February 2018. Manson and Wood began their relationship in 2007, getting engaged three years later in January 2010, however the engagement was called off in August 2010.

In a statement posted to Instagram, Woods named her alleged abuser as Maralyn Manson.

“The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson. He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years,” she wrote. “I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”

After the initial allegation, four other women have since posted allegations against Manson.

After the allegations were made, Manson was dropped from his record label, Loma Vista Recordings, who released the following statement.

“In light of today’s disturbing allegations by Evan Rachel Wood and other women naming Marilyn Manson as their abuser, Loma Vista will cease to further promote his current album [2020’s ‘We Are Chaos’], effective immediately. Due to these concerning developments, we have also decided not to work with Marilyn Manson on any future projects.”

Manson has now taken to his Instagram to deny the allegations, saying all of his relationships “have always been entirely consensual”.

“Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality” He wrote. “My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”

Previously Manson and his team have strenuously denied allegations of abuse levelled against him. Last year, Manson’s team issued a statement in response to questions about his past relationship with Evan Rachel Wood. “There are also numerous articles over multiple years where Evan Rachel Wood speaks very positively about her relationship with Manson,” The statement read. “Unfortunately, we live in a time where people believe what they read on the internet, and feel free to say what they want with no actual evidence. The effects can be catastrophic and promoting non fact based information is wholly irresponsible.”

“All we can try and do, as the media and individuals, is to use facts and truth and not hide behind gossip and conjecture to further our own agendas.”

The response came after Manson ended an interview with Metal Hammer in September, after the publication asked about testimony Wood gave in front of the California Senate Public Safety Committee in April 2019.

“Personal testimony is just that, and we think it’s inappropriate to comment on that,” his spokesperson said at the time. “You then go on to talk about Manson being accused of ‘terrible things’ by unnamed ‘critics’ but offer no guidance on who these critics are and what these things are, so it’s not possible to comment.”

In a 2009 interview with Spin, Manson was quote as saying of Wood “I have fantasies every day about smashing her skull in with a sledgehammer.” In response last year, Manson’s representative said his words were “obviously a theatrical rock star interview promoting a new record, and not a factual account.”
