A statement explaining the track read “A coruscating account of a debauched evening, a self-satire and a more externally focused satire of the view that designates fatal addictive illnesses as approved occupational hazards for the prancing minstrels who destroy themselves for our entertainment, ā8 Stone, Tall and Handsomeā locates the narrator in Hackneyās thriving night-time economy of the late 90s. Clearly Bukowski-esque, owing a substantial debt to āTender Preyā era Nick Cave, but also referencing Dr. John, Joris Karl Huysmans and Bill Hicks, the narrator lands up āin a room the texture of a yellow lung with a ten pound prostituteā and catching his āreflection in the broken glassā of āa pocket mirror lying on the mantelpieceā he declares himself to be āridiculously handsomeā as the woman present āspits in a cupā. The denouement reveals the awesome depths of the narratorās self delusion.”
